I’m watching this and trying to mimic his teaching ability. He’s so smooth and informative. I’m planning on introducing this game to some people, but am nervous about the teaching part. Knowing how to play a game is different from being able to teach the game. My teaches always feel so clunky.
@dramajoe3 жыл бұрын
Two small notes -- 1) With Paul's ability, you absolutely DO NOT shuffle your discard if you have no card to look at. You simply look at nothing until the game puts cards back into your deck in a normal fashion. 2) They actually play this correctly, but it doesn't become clear until over an hour into the video and could be very confusing if you only consider the teach at the beginning: if you have no troops in the conflict you are ineligible to gain combat strength from any other effects; furthermore, if you have strength you've previously gained from other sources and you lose all troops you had in the conflict, your combat strength is reset to zero.

Very late to this party, but I'm getting ready for my first game, and noticed another notable error: You place your agent immediately when you play a card. You can't gain the benefit of the card you played and then use that to pay the cost of the space you're putting the agent on. I had to double-check the rulebook on that one.

Kudos to Aaron for the seamless and thorough teach on the game, impressed by the ability to do that so well from what appears to be a single take. I am curious to know how long you spend in preparation to convey this knowledge so well to others. Love how you guys posted this the day of the release of the new movie. Great video as always.

I know people (my dad included) that'd just go 'let us just start and learn along the way'.... which I HATE: just listen to some basic rules and if you didn't understand it all... you'd most likely not have it all stick, but you WILL at the very least have had it all mentioned.

46:11 When Nikki asked if she could use her intrigue card, and Jackie responded saying if it has daggers she might want to wait. She has to wait as those are combat intrigue cards and are only revealed during the combat phase. Plot intrigue cards are revealed on an agent/reveal turn. Also 50:50 she shouldn't have shuffled to see what's coming next. You should only shuffle if you have no cards in your draw pile and you are required to draw a card. It says this in the clarifications section of the rule specifically for Paul. "Paul Areides / Poison Snooper - You can't look at the top card of your deck if it is empty. (You can't reshuffle your discard pile and form a new deck until you need to draw a card.)"

Really nice teaching and gameplay! I think I could play this game just by watching you guys. At 1:50:41 Lincoln should have bumped his influence bonus with the Spacing Guild instead of the Emperor to block Aaron and to get the VP token. I agree with you Jackie, wish there were a few more end-game cards. And to continue with post-game discussion...it did seem to me, that it was very easy to muck up your deck with purchases, but there were previous few ways to trash cards, so deck size gets to be a problem. Getting great cards doesn't matter if those cards only come out once, or don't come out at all.
@JackieFox19763 жыл бұрын
Yes -- not a lot of deck cycling in this game. At a certain point, you need to be willing to just muck your persuasion, I think unless there's a great purchase (e.g., The Spice Must Flow, ideally with some trashing ability).

I realy wish this boardgame would be digitized and purchasable on steam. not everyone got 3 or so pals to play boardgames with after all. Also did Nicki forget to gain a Fremen influence when she bout Liet Kines? Also also, I can see that going to get that extra agent early seem rather crucial, along with getting a way to trash cards early on as well, so you can filter down in your bad starter cards. This means better cards more often, as well as more board-actions each turn.
@JackieFox19762 жыл бұрын
It's a great solo game. The AI is really well done and is available as an app, which is really nice.
@kinagrill2 жыл бұрын
@@JackieFox1976 App? as in physical board game with an app that does AI actions?
@JackieFox19762 жыл бұрын
@@kinagrill The app isn't necessary, but it makes the set-up easier by reminding you what you need to do and then it draws the cards for the AI so you don't have to do it. And it improves on the solo game by occasionally telling you to flush some cards from the market, which better mimics what other players might do. It's really quite a good system for a game that wasn't designed with solo in mind and the difficulty levels are spot on.
