Also ar 34:42 the Ra ship should have moved 1 space when Lincoln drew Ra tile from bag.

At 34:00 Nikki takes the 8 from the middle, and doesn’t turn it over and actually uses it again that round (40:45) to gain a bunch of tiles when she never should have been able to use that 8. Just goes to show that little detail of flipping it face down should really be paid attention to because that will alter the entire outcome of the game

So I bought Ra, and love it conceptually. Buy what I find that happens eventually. Is a player with the lowest sun dials, will often just start calling auctions early, so they can hopefully steal a better sun dial with their low one. Hoping no one else bids. This eventually just leads to a bunch of short rounds , with not many tiles claimed. It's rare to see an auction with more than 4 tiles in my experience because everyone knows who is going to win it if we let it get full. I think we out thunk ourselves in this game, and our strategy has led to not fun plays lol

@@Savagefred I find lots of fun in the small auctions, they make it trickier to bid/call. Why would you make somebody else's lot better? You can see that in this game, players weren't bidding often enough in general and Rusty with his bad numbers needed to force the issue in the third epoch.

@@SavagefredThat sounds like table meta. The straightforward strategy should bust that since the value of the bid tiles is only such that it allows you to trump in the next round. The issue is it won't work all the time because it all depends on how the Ra tiles come out. Maybe your table had an unlucky streak of lots of Ra tile draws over a number of games and settled on the meta.

at around 34 minutes Lincoln drew a RA tile ,but didn't move up the RA time piece. That is one of things I didn't like of the new edition. The old edition you would place the RA tiles on time track so there was no way you could forget where it was.

If you flip the auction board its set up for using the tiles instead of the boat.

Really? I am considering which edition to buy - and when I look at pictures on BGG I don't see much of a difference for that time-track on either side; maybe it's not so evident in the photos, though I can tell there are two distinct sides. @@grandad1982

the DR. is a genius! luv this game loved the playthrough...way to crush nikki p.! i have the deluxe version as well and i never need to go to the gym to get a workout i just do some curls with the RA box..LOL! its in my top 10 as well rusty...along with the good doctor's AMUN-RE

I'm trying to learn how to play and this was an "epoch" teach, thank you! :D One question, though. At 10:53 Lincoln suggests that the person with the Ra figurine during a forced auction (triggered when the tile row is full) would be required to bid if everyone else passed. However, if I understand correctly, even the person with the Ra figurine can pass when an auction is forced upon them. Please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I like to play the game where One of the players always draws the tiles. That way its faster to keep pulling tiles. We just keep track of whose "turn" is it

If you stack the Nile Tiles, it's a Nile Tile Pile. If you gain a Nile Tile, but lose it soon after, you only had that Nile Tile for a little while. I'll stop now. Great video, as always!

Ich würde mal sagen: So muss eine top Erweiterung sein. Allerdings zahlt man für 2 mehr Spieler, was man selten tun wird. 3 Spieler ist top, für 4 Spieler würde ich den Schnellmodus nehmen. Aber 5 oder 6 muss nicht sein.

I can't believe you haven't played Ra for 15 years. It always makes me sad when we look behind the curtain of board game personalities and realize they play so many games that they almost never revisit them. I like to pretend that when you guys aren't promoting new games you're at home playing all the classics like Agricola and Concordia because the alternative depresses me a bit. Don't know why, it's none of my business. Call me sentimental. I mean, I still have my original copy of Ra despite the gorgeous new edition because I'm attached to my Alea series. Go figure.
