Love this game and am enjoying this video but I just had to chime in and clarify two things. One, if you are the first player (and 2nd in a 4+ player game) to choose the buy gear action at the trail end you don’t actually gain a sun resource but rather a 1 sun discount on your gear purchase. Two, you can absolutely use your campfire to visit a space occupied by your own hiker. 🙂
@dk-jy3ug3 жыл бұрын
At 22:28 when Deborah asked if she can visit herself on the same site, her campfire was already out and that's why she was told she could not.
@MadSlantedPowers Жыл бұрын
Receiving a sun and using it to pay for the gear is essentially the same as getting a one sun discount on the gear. Edit - I see another comment that points out that a discount from another source could reduce the cost to zero, so that is a situation where receiving the sun would not be the same as getting the discount.

@@MadSlantedPowersYes, that changed. The later v1.1 from Keymaster does indeed say „They can be used in place of any other token to visit Parks, take Photos, buy Gear, and visit the River. Wildlife cannot be used to fill a Canteen or traded in / gained as part of the 11 x2 Site or Canteen“. I don‘t know if there were any other rules, piece or board changes in v1.1 so it’s probably safest to stick to the rules you have.

Today I drove out of town to go to the mall and some comic/game stores. I didn't even think about going to Barnes & Noble until I was getting ready to leave the town. The B&N is right by the mall, so I stopped by. I was surprised at how good of a game selection they have. Also, after having started watching this video on the 2nd, I looked up the game on Amazon and it was $63. I had no clue at that point this game was exclusive to B&N. I was a bit surprised when I saw it there today and for just $50... so I snatched it up. I played it solo today just to check it out. Glad I picked this one up, it's really nice. I'm a super organizing freak with my games. I just about had a OCDgasm when I saw how well this game is organized in the box. Now I just need some people to come play it with me lol. 21:40 You don't get a sun, you get a sun discount. 95% of the time this is the same thing since you have to buy gear, but there can be a case where you can make gear cost zero already but you will not get a sun. 22:28 You can totally use a campfire to visit yourself. You must move forward though. 27:00 They are technically called "splendor" not "sun"s (if you are being nitpicky)
@CollectionTHX11385 жыл бұрын
I agree with the first two I mentioned them also. But the third point they're called Sunshine tokens in the rulebook. I think you may have watched Zee Garcia call them "splendor". The rulebook "Forest, Mountain, Sunshine, Water, Wildlife, Photos, 10 Trail Sites, 1 Trailhead and 1 Trail End. " As I pointed out players call anything related to currency "money" that's just what they like to say. Or in this game Trees instead of Forest. I always like to use proper terminology but sometimes I say what I want to say. Either lazy, for fun, or forgetful lol

22:30 yes you can visit your other hiker with your campfire "To visit a Site that is occupied by another Hiker(s)-including your own-you must use your Camp re by flipping it over to the extinguished side." 29:25 There's also a water bottle gear card that has an immediate action to draw a canteen card when you buy it with sunshine (which shows up at 34:08). Also note that the background colors relate to the type of token the ability is related to so pink is mountain, green forest, blue water, yellow sunshine and a couple are neutral gray. And there's a season of wind card that gives you a one sun discount that round when you buy gear. 1:35:55 note the tops of the solo mode ranger event cards affect movement and the bottom resources and gear and I like the thematic names. A PARKS Nightfall expansion KS just started for Sep 2020 release. One thing it does is replace the year bonus cards for more flexibility. And some parks with immediate actions similar to the water bottle gear card.

I only watched the first season til 28:45 but these are my observations. We should point out, I never thought this, and you don’t say it, but first time players may wonder that the 4 ‘seasons’ aren’t winter, spring, summer and fall. It’s whatever is one the thematic Season cards. @17:51 you can also reserve a park by drawing the top card from the Parks deck instead of taking 1 of the faceup 3. You might do that if you don’t have resources for other parks or there’s low scoring parks on the board. VP on parks cards are 2, 3, 4, and 5. If I understand what you tried to explain & do @ 21:45 and 25:50 you don’t actually get sunshine tokens. In a 4 player game the first two hikers to the Buy Gear slot get the 1 sunshine discount meaning a 1 sunshine gear is free, 2 costs 1, and 3 costs 2 without actually gaining a sunshine token to pay for it. So @ 26:20 you had 3 sunshine and should have paid only 2 sunshine to buy the 3 sunshine journal. Either way you do have 1 sunshine in your supply after buying the gear. It’s just redundant to physically take a sunshine from the main supply. Any other hikers after that can buy gear with no discount. If I understand what you said @22:33 yes you can extinguish a campfire (if you haven’t already) to visit a trail tile where your other hiker is at. @27:30 to clarify for viewers, no matter where the last hiker is at on the trail they have to skip to the trail end tile then take an action. It might not be clear because she was 1 tile away. I’ll watch the rest of this. It’s nice to see a 4 player game. I wondered when GameNight was going to play PARKS (all caps on BGG ; ) Fwiw I have the Barnes & Noble exclusive box with different art and a larger box. I’m uploading a solo gameplay video soon. I skipped to the end to see the scores. One houerule I use is if you draw a duplicate canteen you can draw again so Nikki didn't get stuck with two moutnains however duplicates can have their uses. The Year end bonus cards can give you something to aim for but in the end they're just that, Bonuses if you happen to fulfill the requirements. As far as the solo mode Ranger Event deck, the tops of the cards effect movement and the bottoms resources. I'll upload a solo mode game sometime soon.

The majority of my gaming group isn't into boardgames as much as me and are a little less experienced so I'm always looking for "evolved" style games and this seems perfect. Well done and "wooooot" for Rusty. Nice easy explanation.

I bought the Barnes & Noble edition over the holidays and I have really enjoyed it the two times I played. I think the key to this game is creating combos between your two hikers, making sure you utilize your campfire twice per season if you can (as it flips over whenever a hiker reaches the end, not just at the end of a season), and trying to create an engine with your gear and canteen cards if you can. My little brother had a great gear card that gave him lots of water and he also had several canteens so he was able to make big moves by filling all his canteens at once, giving him lots of resources in one turn. I think going for photos in addition to your main strategy works pretty well, especially if you can hold onto the camera at the end of each season. Really enjoyed this game. It will be on my 10x10 for the year so I'm curious to see its replay value.
