Very cool! I had the delight of playing Port Royale with Rusty last Friday at Game Haus, what an interesting and friendly dude!

Your camera image quality seems so much better than what it was a couple years ago. It's so much easier to see the board and cards.

I wondered how many "books" were included with the game... Looking on BGG, it looks like 5 books come with the base game, and the 5 (so far) expansions each add 2 books and 2 characters, (some expansions introduce slight variations in play) (So 15 of the 17 novels are covered)

I just got this game for a friend for Christmas. I love it very much and will be getting all the expansions.

I'm a HUGE fan of the Dresden Files books. I got this for Christmas. I like the game a lot. I like that it is a Co-Op card game, but not a deck builder. There are also solo rules. I wish there was more depth to the theme, but it feels right. I like the addition of the Fate dice. The difficulty is kind of on the high side (game play, not rules), but that fits in with theme too, as the rules say, Harry never catches a break. I do wish they gave more in the base set, but...

This game is neat, I will be the first person to tell you it isn't my absolute favorite but it does have an element that this video didn't really address and that is play time. Our group can and does knock out a game of this in under 30 minutes including set-up and tear down with time to spare and is a viable game for almost any player count. For us it is a micro / filler game that scratches a different itch so while nobody sets out to play it specifically it hits the table a bunch while we are waiting for folks to arrive, played among eliminated players or to have something to do when the main game ends and folks want to stick around for a little while longer. Lets be honest it is really just a puzzle, you could play this by literally placing everyones hands on the table and with a notepad just write out the moves you are going to make and see fairly quickly if you are going to win or lose, the dice do add some variance but not a lot and there are ways to draw more cards as characters but the number of times this has done much other than give us some more fate to work with is minimal.

Not sure about the pronunciations? I highly recommend the audio books, even if you have the paper versions. James Marsters is the narrator and does a fantastic job

Totally agree. When I read the novels, his voice is in my head as Harry.

Harry doesn't do hats, but there's a running gag that he's always pictured with a hat on the book covers.

I just finished book two of The Dresden Files so I was kind of excited about this game. It appears to me they did not go all out with the theme which is disappointing but the actual game isn't really my wheelhouse either. That's unfortunate, I was hoping to end this video more excited about this game

Here's a random question: I just watched Lucha Underground, and one of the new characters was "Benjamin Cooke" He looks and sounds a whole lot like Dave. Is Dave doing professional wrestling? More specifically is Dave Johnny Mundo's shady agent in Lucha Underground?
@heccubus17 жыл бұрын
Dave does not wrestle but he plays a wrestling agent known as Benjamin Cooke. We've been waiting for those episodes to play for a while.

1:13:03 The Mouse and Ra character packs were Kickstarter exclusives. If you didn't back it you need to buy a copy of the game from someone who did.

This is no longer the case. You can buy them from Evil Hat, think they are $3.99 each.

I had a question that wasn't really in the rules. Once an action card is used, does it have to be discarded? Or can it be reused?

It is discarded.

Are the books good?
@SmileItsRome6 жыл бұрын
There are 16 novels, a couple novellas and a load of short stories. Butcher's Dresden novels are constantly on the Best Sellers list. Dresden Files is undoubtedly my all time favorite book series. I'll be honest, the first two books are the worst written (great story, but mediocre writing), with book 3 Butcher gets much better, book 4 even more so, and on and on.

Small correction. At the showdown, minuses count as blanks. You only count pluses.
@rsgumby7 жыл бұрын
No, that's not the case. Minuses and pluses are added together. See here: boardgamegeek.com/article/25256269#25256269
@FredHicks7 жыл бұрын
Minuses still count as minuses in the Showdown. Not sure where you got the idea it was otherwise (other than, possibly, the fact that if you roll a negative overall total with the dice, it certainly won't resolve the targeted card).
@VaingloriousGames7 жыл бұрын
It makes no difference to the outcome of the game whether you count minuses as minuses or blanks, since you can only roll on each case or foe once during the showdown. It is a distinction without a difference.
@rsgumby7 жыл бұрын
VaingloriousGames I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. Let's say I am missing 1 hit from an enemy and roll 3 dice. If minuses count as blank, I would succeed with + - -. If not, I would fail.
@VaingloriousGames7 жыл бұрын
I was not saying that any given "-" die counts as a blank die roll. I was saying that for a total roll (all dice plus the base value together), a net negative total is not functionally different from a 0, or any roll that does not finish off the case or foe - since you can only roll against each case or foe with tokens on it once in the showdown.

Games that limit what you can say like they did in this game, is just poor game mechanics. Add in that I don't like pure co-op games (I prefer some opposition or a traitor aspect), and this game isn't for me.
@mebeksis7 жыл бұрын
There's no rule that says you CAN'T say things, it's a recommendation.
@SmileItsRome6 жыл бұрын
It actually adds to the theme. In the books there is a constant of characters not sharing useful info, and not telling companions what's going on.
