Do you love, or not love, any of these games?? We thought this would be a fun way to showcase some of our different tastes and the ways that a game can be the perfect pick for someone, and maybe not so much for someone else. At the end of the day, every boardgame is someone's favorite boardgame!

My takeaway is Carl is Mr. Darcy. Once his good opinion of a game is lost, it's lost forever. 🤣

Watching this right now - before the pandemic I had a group of old ladies like me who really got into board games, and we LOVED Betrayal at House on the Hill, but we also had that feeling of the Betrayer of being all alone (I am the world's worst strategist, btw) so what we did was, the person who got the Betrayer card could pick a partner and they'd play as one character. That was really fun! Loving the video!

Love that solution. In my introduction to the game, a newer player was supposed to be the betrayer, and we shifted rules to allow them to opt out and let another player volunteer. The scooby doo version is fun and easier for a newbie to be the betrayer.

I agree with carl with the role playing games, tried playing clue as the physical version and couldn't get into it, i used to play mouse trap and game of life over and over again because they're simple enough for me to play, might buy scrabble and candy land again too. I think i like the computer version of clue better because its easier to see everything.

I'm pretty new to your channel but you've already shown me that there are so many more board game options than the stereotypical ones they sell at Walmart and I'm really excited to try a few. My son really likes to play board games but they were never really my thing until we found villainous and I love that game. Now I'm planning to expand out and get a few that are lesser known to the public. I already bought wanderhome (thanks to you) and I'm super excited for it to come in.

Betrayal at House on the Hill is one of my favorite games of all time!! And the Legacy version? Best game I've ever played, hands down. The few months I spent working through the campaign of the history of the house was the most fun I've had playing with a group of friends.

This was fantastic content. Really loved the interplay between you two and the insights into what you each look for in your game experiences. My son and I are all in on DC Deckbuilding, and we absolutely have house rules. The two of us have been playing this together for so long that my husband doesn’t like joining us - he feels too much like an outsider. Completely agree about one negative experience tainting a game. That happened to us with Legendary. We’ll likely never play it again. I think of it like DNFing a book - there are too many books, or games, in the world to play something I don’t like.

I think I generally tend to agree with Karl more on the games you guys liked. I haven't played most of the games Jaysen said (except Sheriff, and I definitely prefer other bluffing games over it). I think I'm the opposite of both of you when it comes to replaying games. I like having a bit of everything, but I'm most interested in having a version of the game that I LOVE and could replay the largest number of times with friends. So Codenames and Secret Hitler are major favorites of mine because they're so replayable, especially with different friends.

I’d really love a video on games that feel very intuitive and are decently quick to learn because I hate the feeling of uncertainty regarding rules or having to read the whole rulebook everytime we play something because it’s so complex. I don’t necessarily love quick play games a lot of the time because I want more but sometimes it’s like choose something easy and boring or choose something with a literal book of a rulebook 🤣I don’t mind too much but trying to play with my 12 year old brother who has adhd requires something easier to understand and faster paced than some of those complex ones naturally tend to be.

I'll play First Rat with you. It sounds cute. I love Betrayal at House on the Hill! (I also add haunting in the name every time. lol) I've played through two of them and was the betrayer once. Thankfully it was the second time. Picking a team is hard but I think I'd go with Jaysen because deck building isn't my favorite (not that I've played many) Betrayal is so good though because there are so many different outcomes that you can play the same game over with each time being something different,.

First time I ever played betrayal of house on the hill,I ended up the betrayer and it was so confusing! I don't know if would play again. The thing with Marvel Legendary is the same issue I ran into with Munchkin. We had so many expansions and they all didn't work together so we had to modify the deck all the time. It got overwhelming. Still one of my all time favorites though

So the grizzled is on my shelf of shame and first eat is in my Amazon carts can’t comment but Betrayal is one on my least favorite games! For all the same reasons, but, I also feel that when you play with someone who loves it, they know every scenario and they rally the team to victory or them self to victory in like 3 turns after. And if you don’t like a scenario then you can’t change it or not not play it. The game chooses what you play and I don’t like that.

I also like Salem 1692 - trying to find the witch, with all the cards people have. That is my favorite of the Façade Games series (but I haven’t played Hollywood 1947 yet). My 2nd favorite is Tortuga 1667 - that one is more complex, you are trying to move treasure, between the British and French sides of ships - and you can end up getting kicked off the ships and go to the island of Tortuga. Bristol 1350 is ok - you are trying to win a race and either end up being clean - or spreading the plague…- but I really don’t like Deadwood 1876 (I did not have a good experience with it the one time I had played it - as everyone had decided to attack me when I had good stuff in my vault - and of course, they picked the vault with my best stuff).

Now she's just turned 11 I'd love to get her into more games that I can play solo but all the one's I liked on your solo vid are not available in the UK 😢 Also I'm like you, not much of a clue person, more of a fantasy and puzzle person. Betrayal at House on the Hill is one of my all-time favorite games from back when the instruction manual's error fixes you could print online was thicker than the original instruction manual. I also have the 2nd edition and I'm actually considering buying the 3rd edition just to see if I can finally get a copy of the game with a good instruction manual AND a character card that will actually hold the clips all in the same game box. 😂 But, I also like Everdale and Sheriff of Nottingham. Mysterium is one of my favorites too, but I almost never can find a group to play with. It's like Dixit (which is another all-time favorite for me), but more frustrating, I mean complicated, haha. I've only played Marvel Legendary a couple of times. I also got overwhelmed quickly with expansions. And, Dead of Winter is pretty fun (but I have no idea if we still have our copy or not). Smallworld is a deep cut! I haven't played it in many years, but enjoyed it. So, I'm team Carsen? Jayarl? Loved this video, my husband and I could very easily do a presentation like this too (I'm the one that likes replaying forever, he's the one that's always looking to play new games).

9:21 I agree with you! I HATE that game, too! 1) There is way too much dice rolling. 2) It is the game that made me discover that I don’t like games with overly asymmetric gameplay. I really don’t like how your don’t know what’s going on with the haunt until after the game - and how we have to stop the game midway through, so that the one player - who was selected - who may not be an experienced board gamer, needs to read the scenario in the rulebook ALONE and come back. Also, the rest of the group needs to figure out what they are going to do - but at least they can discuss it amongst themselves.

Carl has great taste in board games. Jaysen… yes. Jaysen too. But mostly because I LOVE story based campaign games. The Grizzled is my favorite go to board game for when you want something simple to teach but still interesting. I have taught it a bunch of times and I disagree. It’s not hard to teach. 😂 Betrayal used to be my favorite game. I still like it but I’ve played it so much. And Jaysen is wrong! The rules don’t change really at all. It’s the same rules but with new objectives. But it is absolutely a party game. If everyone plays it like that it’s great! Marvel Legendary is another go to game for me. Not as much since I got aeon’s end though. X-haven. Yup. That’s my jam. I’m actually starting to get tired of these games after having played through Gloomhaven twice and a big portion of Frosthaven (maybe 70%). Have you looked at artisans of splendent vale? It’s that type of game but more engaging and more streamlined rules. Also very inclusive. All characters are non-white LGBTQ. Not good solo though. Maybe impossible solo? In the end I’m team Jaysen. Mostly because i adore long story rich campaigns
@Ezeekat
@Ezeekat 4 ай бұрын
Omg we LOVE Aeon's End. The reason it's not here is that we both adore it. We have started Artisans of Splendant Vale. You are right, it's excellent but pretty much impossible as a solo game. You could play two characters but it would be A LOT of management. If you like those games, definitely check out Kinfire Chronicles. Also super inclusive and CAN be played solo.

20:29 I am not a big fan of Sheriff of Nottingham, either… I do like it more than Betrayal at House on the Hill, though… I just don’t like games in which you have to lie (yes, I know - technically you are under no obligation to lie during the game - and you could go the entire game without lying… However, the way the game is scored incentivizes you to want to carry contraband - and if you can get away with it, the reward makes up for the risk. Especially since, if you don’t lie: 1) Someone else in the game is likely to lie - and if they get away with it, will accumulate more points than you; and 2) Not lying makes you a target - you are the person who doesn’t lie - of course, maybe you can go one game without lying, to establish a baseline with the people you are playing with, and then the next time you play it, you start lying. So I feel like I need to lie during the game - and let’s just say that I am not a very good liar - people would see through a lot of times.

I'm the opposite of Carl. I don't want to play anything new. I don't want to watch any new movies. I want to make sure it's actually good and not just a fad. If everyone talks about it, it's a turn-off for me. I will also wait until it's cheaper or free. I don't want to pay a huge markup of a game or movie just because everyone is talking about it. I have a do not finish issue. I have to finish a movie or a book. So it's important I don't follow fads. 😂
