Nice lists for sure 🙂 Some of my humble thoughts: I did also love Darwin's Journey's mechanisms and still I feel exactly like Johannes about it unfortunately. GWT: NZ of course also convinced me once again. All GWT games are among my most favourite games. I might even like Argentina the most by now, as it is the tightest. Until now I tried all of Pfister's new game but I skipped Pirates of Maracaibo as from what I've seen it mostly removes stuff I love from the Original and I don't feel like cutting play time :) I liked Age of Innovation even though I wasn't enjoying Gaia Project too much. And finally: Yep, I like Evacuation a lot too. Not quite as much as GWT, but after Woodcraft wasn't my greatest experience, Evacuation was really good. Have a good time and I try to check-in more regularly again on your channel :*

A fun cannon of a video. I love the fact that you not only dance very elaborately but also perform extremely deep and meaningful lyrics. Moving poetry in action..oh and also games. I think your number one might be too heavy for me. There have been many very good games this year but I still haven’t played Hegemony and Voidfall because I don’t have the time to learn them.

A lot of crossover with me this list. Frosthaven would be on here except I got it December of 2022 and had it on my list last year. Evacuation still hasn't made it to the United States, and I added White Castle to my pre-order of Evacuation. Those two will definitely kick something else off of my list. Age of Innovation I need someone else to buy in my group, out of space and money :) 10 - Distilled 9 - Scout 8 - Earth 7 - Scholars of the South Tigris 6 - La Granja Deluxe Master Set 5 - Darwin's Journey 4 - Revive (was on your list last year, 2023 release in the United States) 3 - GWT: New Zealand 2 - Nucleum 1 - Voidfall

Love Voidfall! It's just got so much depth and decision space to the game play. I think that would have to be my #1 for 2023. I'd also probably have to put Hegemony at #2 on my list if I'd been lucky enough to actually play it. It's one I know I would thoroughly enjoy but the group I play with wouldn't be as interested. Maybe at a convention one day I can give it a go. BTW, who won the crossover challenge??? Thanks for the fun videos!

Excellent list! We'd have some crossovers, too. My top ten of 2023 (with the caveat that Voidfall is tabled but not yet played) is: 10 - Earth 9 - Darwin's Journey 8 - For Northwood! (BGG says 2021 but I think it only really became available this year...?) 7 - Sky Team 6 - Expeditions 5 - Barcelona 4 - 3 Ring Circus 3 - Scholars of the South Tigris 2 - Nucleum 1 - The White Castle
@BoardGamingRamblings11 ай бұрын
Great, great list! Thank you so much for sharing it :D
@yarondavidson643411 ай бұрын
For Northwood! started as a P&P on 2021, so technically BGG is right. But the retail version was crowdfunded by Side Room Games on 2022, with noticeable changes, and while it does technically make it a 2022 game officially, it has only started fulfillment on 2023, so personally I think it's absolutely acceptable to consider it a 2023 release. Very good game for my taste. I am sort of on the fence on whether it is or isn't actually a trick-taking game, since on the one hand it mechanically absolutely is and matches all the requirements a definition of trick-taking mechanisms would have, but on the other hand the decisions in play hardly ever involve the trick-taking basics of trying to deduce or influence what the other player(s) probably have in their hand (except for the few powers that let you do that, but then those are in turn much more exact and explicit than suit/high/low you'd normally have). So you play (mechanically) a trick-taker, without actually playing (semantically) a trick-taker. Still, I do like it a lot regardless.
@laurencesingh394811 ай бұрын
@@yarondavidson6434 Ahh fascinating. I didn't know all of that. Thanks for the information! And if it isn't a traditional trick-taker that would make sense. I don't really gravitate towards trick-taking but I find myself loving this game.

It's been an amazing year for games. I was a big fan of Voidfall but feel like it's a bit too long for how not interactive it is. Interestingly I think others will not like it because of the potential threat of other players but honestly it's so hard to get to other people and then to wage war that unless the stars align, it's almost like mutual destruction. Would have been better with non conflict interaction like trade or something. Love the game just wish it was more heads up. I'm genuinely susprised to see Evacuation beat Age of Innovation though! I do think Evacuation is special. Reminds me of the best parts of early game On Mars. I worry about its longetivity but it definitely is an amazing game.

Haha, sorry about that! Not everything is scripted, so sometimes adlibs don’t reach comedy gold standards 😅 Hope you liked the rest of the video! Thank you for watching 🤩

If this was a drama channel, rather than a boardgames channel, then when you reached #1, after the long intro on how you're both sure you picked the same #1, and you almost always converge on the top 3 because obviously you also like playing together a lot, and doing the countdown to saying the name of the game together... you should have picked different games. That would have been a lot more entertaining to watch. 😀 Good list overall, If I had actually bothered to officially consider my games and rank them, pretty sure there would be some crossovers too. Not personally very much into legacy games, though. And it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people choose as games of the year things which are "Older game that was widely available, version #N". Though technically these are usually fine and fair choices, as in all the examples here, since they are both different enough from the original. So not a genuine complaints, just as I wrote a personal pet peeve.

I’m working on the Board Gaming Ramblings soap opera right now 😂 (If you want a fun moment like that, check out the top 10 of 2019. Still my favorite moment in any of our videos) I do agree with you to a point. We did not have any of the many great reprints on the list, but with games that changes enough for it to feel new, we do include them :)

@@BoardGamingRamblings , ah, seems that I did watch it at the time. And it really was funny. Thanks for the reminder.

I enjoy your top 10s, but have you ever thought of just combining or averaging your lists? To have 16-17 crossovers out of 20 seems like a bit of a waste since your tastes are so very much the same.

We think about it a lot, and it all comes down to how much fun we have when we’re making the video. We did one where we had a common top 10, and it was way less fun. Even though we often align (especially at end of year lists) we love not knowing. We love that we might be surprised by where something landed, seeing a game we didn’t think would be there, and so on. It adds an edge to the filming for us, and is one of the reasons we love filming top 10s! We always try to make the viewing experience better and better, but this is one thing we will probably never change! :) Thank you for the feedback, and thank you for watching! 😁

There is a lot of initial "rush" bias on this list with so many being end of the year releases, I suspect when they get six months or so past that you would see some changes to the list. I like how some reviewers are revisiting their lists or waiting a while into the next year before they do the initial list.

@@Listan1For me personally, it's a boring pick up and deliver. You have to do the same thing every game. The only difference is which set of actions you will do it with. Plus the game is crisis, about 20 moves and you always need to build three stadiums, three or four ships, move on three tracks and transport tokens. Very dry and very boring game. But this is my personal opinion

The Brass games and the GWT games are nothing alike. The Brass games are a boring slog whereas GWT is one one the best in all forms

We agree, they are nothing alike, and our point was not to compare them. The two versions of Brass are very similar, yet different, therefore the connection to the different versions of GWT 😊
