My wife (then, my fiancée) and I were there that day. I’d been licensed to ministry of the gospel only a few days before hearing this sermon. So powerful…it shaped the course of my life, home, labors in the Scriptures, and care for souls. May God alone be exalted! May our lives count for his glory, all our days.

God be glorified!!! It was through Piper's inadequacy, through his inability that Christ was able to speak so much strength through this message...God, be glorified!

So refreshing to see so many younger folks sit and listen to such a beautiful message about the gospel and what's to come in life. Would love to hear Piper give the exact same message preached again at a Passion conference these days.

Being a true man/woman of God is very stressful actually. The heart aches for those who are lost and seeing people pass away that you know many of whom are not saved is painful.

Watching this in November 2023. This was 23 years ago. I am 45 years old. I wonder how everyone else turned out.. I hope they are still walking with the LORD. I found this video after googling Galatians 6:14. I have been hated by this world and it has indeed been crucified to me, and I to the world.

(NKJV) Acts 20: 24 24.But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Philippians 3: 7-15 7.But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8.Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ Galatians 6:14 14.But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.1 Corinthians 1:18

When the perfect comes the partial will pass away. Funny I came to the Lord through a very different message. But at the right time, as I was prepared for truth along came old Pastor John. God has answered your pray my friend. Not quite what I was expecting to find in that treasure chest hidden in the field but far more valuable than anything I expected. I've yelled at you through my phone....How am I supposed to do THAT? Angry. Well I'm figuring it out but it's not me sorting it out that guy is dead. Funny how dead things live isn't it?

Question for the Christian Theologists? Adam and Eve committed the original sin, and Jesus is their saviour; as per the Christian doctrine. What about animals who mate to produce an offspring? Is their sexual activity also a sin and will Jesus also save them from hell?

I like a decent amount of Piper’s stuff but I think his delivery is just not the greatest. For example, when talking about our “exaltation in the cross”. That it’s only possible because Christ came down to die for his glorification so we can exalt Him on the cross. I agree, but why? What does that mean? The answer. It’s because we were designed to worship God. To be in relationship with God. When the Fall occurred, sin interrupted and destroyed that relationship because of our doing. So, when Piper says “We exalt in the cross because Jesus came down to glorify himself on the cross” it means that Jesus restored the relationship that was intended in the first place. The “exaltation in the cross” in other terms means the ability to have a relationship with God once again. “Jesus came down to glorify himself on the cross” in other terms means God got rid of the boundary between us and Him caused by sin. I feel the way Piper explained it could come off in a way that Jesus died for a selfish reason, especially to new believers or non-believers. Otherwise, I agree, just think the wording should’ve been better.
