I love, love, love the Bible. I love John Piper's enthusiasm for the Bible as it is similar to my own. we are so blessed that our Father wrote us a manual for our total understanding of who He is, what is expected of us to have a lasting loving relationship with Him and others, and how to live in the right way, a way that will glorify Him the most. When I read the Bible throughout, I discovered my love for the Lord and that I wanted to have a friendship with Him forever. This is wonderful. Read the Bible (in it's entirity) and you'll never be without a friend!

Mike Hill keep reading, and praying for God to fill you with love for His Word, and to fill you with The Holy Spirit, and understanding, you will get there, but first, are you saved? Meaning read the Word of Jesus and apply them to your life, devouted to Christ, even if it costs you everything even your life, and hold fast to Christ, and love God

Brad Crampton I'm sure her reason is more than that. We Christians love the Bible, as it shows we are sinners unworthy of God's love but that we are Loved and forgiven by the blood of Christ! Not at all because we see that enemies will receive their due recompense.

It's so refreshing when you do. The Bible is the only book that can change your entire life. Say what you will, and there are great Christian books out there allowing you to grow, but the Bible has everything you need. That book allowed me to prune friends, quit drinking, release lustful images I had on my phone, treat people better. Everything is in there and it's a rejuvenating read. Even in doubtful seasons.

God just gives you a taste of his love intensely at the beginning of your relationship with him, he let's himself be known by touching your heart, we are going to get that amount of love when the day comes that we are going to be with him, but god still gives love because I pray for it everyday but not like the amount I felt at the beginning of my relationship with him, if only I could feel his love intensely everyday.

Praise God, Mike Hill, I love that movie and thought my husband would love it too but it didn't touch him, please pray for his heart to be softened. I see you wrote that you want to get closer to Christ but felt maybe spiritually dry now as opposed to when you began. Please note this is normal in your marriage to Christ, for that's what this relationship is called in scripture. You've passed through the honeymoon phase and now must cultivate your relationship and grow deeply in Him. May I suggest daily scripture time, askingvtge Holy Spirit to fill you and open the eyes of your heart to know Him better, and get with a consistent plan like J. Vernon McGees bible study, and stick to it, things will open up to you and Gods love will come alive as you get to know his word. Also get rooted in a bible believing strong church and get with other believers weekly if you can on sundays. God bless ypu!

Yeah, everyone is different and different things touch different people. I'm a long time believer and I didn't like that movie at all. He probably portrays Jesus better than anyone else I've seen - very appealing! Blessings 😁

Reading a book about someone (God) only gives 'head' knowledge...not personal or 'heart' knowledge. Personal knowledge can only come from experience.
@lizziesplaylists8500
@lizziesplaylists8500 4 жыл бұрын
I'm a Christian and I agree. Have you come across Lectio Divina? It's a deep way of praying with a short Bible passage so that you have a personal encounter and experience of God through not just reading the passage but praying with it, having a two way conversation with God about it, listening to God about it, letting the Holy Spirit play out the passage inside you, really entering into it and meeting God in it.
@judylloyd7901

Reading the Bible reveals the nature of God to the reader, providing he's open to Him. Experience has to be tested by the Word of God and cannot be trusted by itself. The fact that we are created rational human beings means we need to apply our minds to the Word of God and to understanding what He says through it. I used to swallow that teaching, that of "head knowledge" versus "heart knowledge," but it's a false division - we need both. Reading God's book with a heart turned towards Him can't possibly give you only head knowledge. I can read a book on Biblical theology and it will make my heart sing with love and praise for the glory of God! My heart unites with my understanding and I am lifted spiritually to God. Praise His beautiful Name! 🤗🤗🤗

I agree with 98% of what Piper says. However, when he was saying that people can only be saved by reading or hearing the Word. However, what about Romans 1:20? I'm of the thought that a person in an unreached place can look at creation and see that God exists (Romans 1 : 20) and if you seek Him (God) he will show himself to you and he will get His Word to you by someway. Yes reading or hearing the Word is the best way to hear about the God of the universe, and that why we must go into the world and preach. I am in no way ant mission. I myself went into a semi closed country and did evangelism.
@judylloyd7901
@judylloyd7901 3 жыл бұрын
Creation displays the existence and the glory of God in nature, but it doesn't reveal His redeeming love for us. For that, people need to hear the Gospel. It's fantastic when people reach out for God as a result of seeing something in creation, but they don't know Him until God sends them His gospel of salvation, by some means, as you said. I think that's what John Piper was meaning.

When you listen to an audiobook of the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation it takes 30 hours.... Christians take the Bible on faith as if they were born into a cult. It's easier to be an apologist if you don't know what you're talking about. When someone quotes the Bible and you want to deny it you should first turn to Google search of the Bible. It's okay for Christians to learn what's in the Bible. You might even learn if you do what Jesus would do you would be put to death also. Seems only atheist know why Jesus was crucified in the Bible story. As a fanatical Christian it was my favorite story. I was a fanatic cuz I quit watching TV and read the Bible and went to church every time the doors were open. Now I'm not a Christian because I know what the Bible says.

Somewhat Informed. I've never been taught that you have to take the Bible on faith 😆😆 The Bible itself tells us to test all things and to hold fast to what is good, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, and to test the spirits of the people who teach to see if they are false teachers, 1 John 4:1. I'm very sorry to hear that you have rejected the Bible. I don't know what your claimed knowledge is based on, but it's not the knowledge and understanding of God's Word.

Ive read it twice.. What parts would you like me to quote? How about Numbers 31:18 where moses told his men to commit genocide and rape the girls that are left over? Or would you prefer I quote Mark 7:10 where Jesus commands that cursing kids are put to death? Perhaps I could quote Deuteronomy 22:23-24 where you should stone a rape victim to death. Oh yes. I have read it. Not just the warm fluffy bits. The whole lot!!
@Yesica1993
@Yesica1993 6 жыл бұрын
If you'd read it, then you wouldn't just be pulling verses here and there to suit your whims. You liar, Jesus is not telling anyone to put cursing kids to death. If you'd actually read the Bible as you claim, you'd know basic things like the distinctions between the OT and the NT, what the Law was for, who it was for, how Jesus fulfilled the law, etc. Go spew your hatred and blasphemy elsewhere. You know zero about the Bible. Nor do you care to learn.

Brian Castle In Romans 9:20-21 God addresses your question exactly. He says: “Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?” When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?” It would be foolish to spend your remaining days shaking your fist at God asking Him all sorts of unimportant questions and telling Him how He did it wrong. You’d be much better off spending your days trying to figure Him out from a position of weakness and humility because any perception of authority you may have is completely in error. You are figuratively like a worm before God.

Why weren't the 10 commandments 1) Thou shall not be racist. 2) Thou shalt not molest children. 3) Thou shalt not rape. 4) Thou shall not oppress an entire race for greed, vanity or wealth. 5) Thou shall not take a human or animal life unjustly. 6) Fathers do not abandon thy kids. 7) Parents respect your children and thy home for they are the future of the world and the home is their school for life. They will respect you in old age if you do. 8) Every man Respect thy neighbors. 9) Love the planet and treat her with respect for she produces life giving minerals and nutrition for humans. 10) Seek me through good works and prayer, for I will reveal myself unto thee. Instead the first 5 commandments are just establishing kingship and sovereignty over all gods and establishing idolatry. And making kids listen and honor their parents. Cool thanks for my first 5 slave training guides. Then don't work on sabbath? Thanks Yahweh I really needed you to tell me to rest a day. Then don't murder? Thanks I need you to tell me not to murder. Then don't fuck your neighbors wife? Thanks Yahweh wasn't planning on it but good to know. Then thou shall not lie? Ok I'll be sure to incriminate myself any chance given thanks Yahweh. Then don't covet thy neighbors shit? But please respect corporate capitalism and pay your goddamn taxes, freedom is a privilege and you must pay. Lol god is fucking stupid at least the god Islam, Judaism, and Roman Catholicism portray.

God’s commandments teaches us to have respect towards one another, and If we respect each other then in turn we wouldn’t rape, be racist, and all the above that you listed. But ofc those situations still exist but that isn’t God’s fault. That is people not choosing to listen or do the right thing. And yea I agree that most people don’t need to be told to not murder, lie in bed with their neighbors spouse, or be told that they should take a day off…but those are all things that DO happen. As people, we are not perfect and we need reminding of simple or obvious commandments.

Yeah you, with “you” being a generalization for all humans here, do need someone to tell us not to rape and murder as you plainly state. This is evidenced by the sheer fact that murder and rape exists.
