Prices are not what they use to be for some things. I stole my 1kW for $620 at a public auction about 10 years ago. In mint condition and had already been professionally restored when I got it. Dust it off a couple times a years and use it for monthly Army MARS nets. I use it at 2kW SSB for the MARS nets. No power limits for licensed MARS operation during activation. Sad thing is the Regional Commander didn't believe me that I was using such a old amplifier with matching receivers and transmitter. He just flat out said "how can you sound so good on something so old". When the next activation came along I took a video of me on the net using it and sent it to him. He forwarded it to the Commander US Army MARS who then emailed me and said pay no attention to that young know it all. And I quote "I have one of them in my HAM shack". I got a kick out of that.

I love tube stuff as well so as much of a double edged sword it is, the lower prices are great for us who just like to have the old tube stuff.....lol...it makes nice "furniture" if nothing else

Since just before 2019 the bottom started falling out on radio equipment, ham, CB, and commercial. It's still falling out. This season featured very low prices on equipment. Until and unless more and younger people get interested in the radio hobbies I fear that a lot of decent, usable vintage gear is headed to the landfill.

The value of any tangible item is determined by how much a buyer is willing to pay for that item and what the seller is willing to accept for that item. When people have extra cash, they tend to spend it freely if something interests them. For example, when the pandemic started and many people were not going out to: restaurants, movies, sports venues, vacations, they accumulated excess cash The urge to get outdoors caused the boating and RV industry to explode in sales. Prices for both new and used boats and RVs were much higher than normal. Now, the industry has slowed down to a normal pace and prices have dropped. If you hold onto the amplifier long enough, the interest and price for those amplifiers may increase again.

Everyone who thought those rigs were worth gold either has one or is dead. Unfortunately, we're a slowly dying breed.

I only partially agree. From what I have heard, only about 500KW's were made and around 800 500's. Many who thought they were gold have died, but also there are still quite a few, like me, who still think they are gold. It's sad as you cannot beat the sound of tubes and plate modulation.
