The first 2 things that should have happened would be life vests and calling the coast guard. I'm not sure if the 3rd part of my answer is correct. Should they have oars on board to help guide the boat, even a little? 4 of them could have kept them off the wall.

Encouraging to see there are no more PFDs in France than Florida. As soon as I lost power everyone would be wearing one and someone would be on the phone finding real help while the rest of us dick around trying to piece together this mess of a stopgap.

This is a very specific spot. Sand straighten out of inlet limit a large part and create breakers , high speed waves and current other side. Cross of these two in one small spot Long concrete wall protect in curve a side but half of the other side could not be protected Add the wind that could be very strong and you must be prepzre to take out of this. But at some hours, depend of ocean height, you could have a very calm period for any boat. Note the best hull was most of time the ultra classic Bénéteau Antares Sailboat in such conditions are also a spectacular

Hey I've got a great idea, let's get a bunch of people together and over populate my lake boat, that I haven't done any maintaince on in 3 years and go out into some rough waters that a small boat should never be in, it'll be a hoot!

If you go out in water like this with a single engine you better be sure you're "ship-shape" with your engine maintenance. Could have been worse but it seemed to all work out after the chaos settled down a bit

What did they do wrong....LMAO...are you kidding....the rubber boat hit the throttle and drove them into the wall, then the second attempt wasn't much better....here's a clue when towing a boat don't tie off to bow cleats, the are not designed for towing....always hook on to stern cleat designed to tow skiers a bow hook designed to winch a boat on a trailer...

Boats are terrible. Everytime I want to go on one I just hire a captain to drive me around for the day. Dirt cheap compared to the headaches of ownership.
