Boat Project 04 - How to Repair the CARBS on a Chrysler Force Outboard 85

How to install new gaskets, needles, needle seats, and misc part repair and cleaning of the carburetors on a Chrysler Force 85 Outboard 85 Boat Motor.
As part of the troubleshooting of this motor I had to bite the bullet and do this. Still figuring things out, but at least I know more about the inner workings of this motor!

That's your fuel overflow hole, means the float is stuck and isnt stopping the fuel from continuously flowing into the carburetor and bogging down the engine, try giving the bowl a few taps to knock the float lose and stop the flow of fuel

The spitting is caused by improper float adjustment. It's getting too much gas, so you need to adjust the tang so the float doesn't let in so much gas.

It was spitting because the bowl float was not adjusted properly, refer to your engine repair manual for instructions. I had this exact problem, fixed it right away with a proper adjustment.

Thank you! Do you still have small amounts of gasoline come out of the front opening of the carbs when running or how do you stop it from doing that?

Fishing Montana, if you have the float adjusted properly then no, you should not have any fuel coming out at all. Also, take the linkages off to have easy access and adjustment to all carbs when they are taken off, I cannot stress enough the importance of a repair manual for this engine, you can pick one up usually off EBay for about 20ish.

@@FishingMontana I'm sure you already know this, but I just want to emphasize that since this is a 2 stroke motor, that will be fuel mixture, not gasoline. If you are putting straight gasoline in the tank, then you might have a problem.

Tillotson made so many different carbs for Chrysler/Force over the years its just silly. Ive been there many times, but usually if you use the needle/seat in the kit and be sure to adjust the float height AND drop according to the service manual it will be just fine.

Hey man do you have the name or part number for that little rubber piece you had to fish out with the tool you fashioned? It’s that piece the needle sets on to that was cracked. As well as that little washer that went in there. Or the part number for that kit I need to get the exact same thing and I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks and awesome video!

Yes, needle isnt seating properly and so it is flooding and going out that valve I have been told. I havent been able to fix it though.

I just got this same exact motor from a friend, my neighbor keeps asking me if it a two stroke??? Can you tell me what it is, is it it for lake, rivers or ? I m no boat person but I want to list the parts for sale and want to be correct as to the engine. I do now it is a model 6pr2005 serial 13362 but thats all I have. Anything you can tell me would help.

It is a 2 stroke yes, if it has a prop on it, most likely a lake boat, If it has a jet lower unit, meant for rivers

Look at the carbs themselves, they will have a model number on them and you can use that to ebay carb kits using that number

so it'll overfill from being too rich? My 55hp has only 2 carbs and 1 leaks a little. I thought it was a little rich. when I give throttle it boggs down and can't climb over the hill. thought it was prop because old one was mangled but, new prop goes only slightly faster while rpms will not rev hardly at all. hard lug

@@dustinhull8211 Are your plugs wet? Your rich if they are? If not your lean, also check your inline filters and the one's in your carbs, blow them out! Main Jet, clogged with debris?
