They’re probably designed to be a bit smaller so they stretch and fit over the lip on the window.
@Vextra17764 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Having to stretch a little bit would make a form a tighter seal.
@heavyglassglass4 жыл бұрын
But it looks line they just set in the window pane with glue. The glass comes down on the side of it rather than pressing out from the inside of the loop. If they're smaller then they might not have a seal against the perimeter of the window. I speak from zero experience, but this is how I understood it.
@samholmessailing4 жыл бұрын
There is no lip to stretch them over. They just rest on a shallow groove and are held on with glue.

I literally thought "3d printer" when you mentioned the screens and two seconds later you bring it up as well. If mine was set up id print them out for you. There was a thread on cruiser forums recently about what a 3d printer could be use for on a sailboat. I will be sure to add that to the list. The OP was trying to figure out if itd be worth having one on board.

Watching your KZbin channel, I am amazed that you have not thought of making your own insect screens. I know that it is possible to buy the netting. It looked as if there is already a frame to hold the screen, so it must be possible to glue this to the net and trim it to fit. Something that I discovered is that the netting of the insect screens not only stops insect intrusion but also stops dust - in Port obviously, not at sea.

They sell lil 10 foot inflatable dingys on eBay that have a motor mount and I’m guessing would work great for you cause they have a soft bottom unlike the nicer ones so it’d collapse smaller. There’s a 7.5 footer but I’d do the 10 so you can carry more weight and still could fit into a duffle bag when inflated. They’re about 350$ so isn’t too bad on the price front. You should look into it cause I know you’re getting fed up with the homemade ones. Good luck man!!!

my boat is still on the hard and every time I head to it to work on it I stop at a home depot or west marine and spend about $200 or $300 first, and usually don't even accomplish what I set out to do because either something doesn't fit or I end up needing to fix something else first, which means I need to make another trip. It's like a never ending cycle. How do you find all the parts you need while on the go? Do you find local shops when you're in port or do you order things on amazon and wait for them at a marina?

A bit late, but the seals on the portlights are the wrong way round. The seals are actually supposed to be of square-section rubber, fitting into the groove on the *moving* part of the frame: this beds to the static part much better when the dogs are tightened, rather than relying on sealant. It appears the glazing has also been incorrectly installed, as it seems to be oversized and covering the groove for the seal.
