So suggestions? If they had been able to turn the boat around they might have avoided taking water over the stern as the outgoing tide would have pushed them out and bought them some time?
@TEC_Stuff5 ай бұрын
Should not have thrown out the anchor, that just sped up the timeline. That extra time would have allowed the other boats to establish a tow line before taking on that much water. I feel for the owner of the boat, except that when you look at how their only life preservers were child-sized, that something like this was destined to happen to this particular boat.

couldnt they have cut that anchor line, hand it off to the bigger boat, tie up, and pull it out to rush the water out the back, to buy some time to pull into a marina? bilge pump dead?

While I understand that it was likely another issue..what struck me in all of the video captures is that the stern section of the cockpit is not in place…thus causing a faster sinking while entering Haulover. Struck me as odd that the boat did not have that section in place.

I am not a boater but, it seems to me they were very inexperienced. Knowing the tide was going out and large volumes of water was rushing thru. On the first sign of a problem , they should have just let the tide carry them back out and keep the boat straight till they fixed it or wait till the tide slacked. Staying on the boat as it was sinking and not getting off speaks volumes.

@@PsychobabbleRappA hull leak sure, but I doubt there's any pump that will out pace a wave breaking 3 feet higher than the aft deck every 2-5 seconds, without said pump sinking the hull itself trying to displace it's sheer weight in water. They went from "is it engine trouble?" to flooded in a minute.
@PsychobabbleRapp4 күн бұрын
@KAMIKAZE-dk8xd you just don't have any concept of boating, .. had the belge pump been working, the lower haul would not have filled up with water due to forgetting to put the drain plug in, causing the stern to set low in the water and bob down so far , and the bow to ride so high, which allowed the water to rush over the stern. Most stock belge pumps can out pace the amount of water coming in the drain hole, , once the the entire lower haul is full of water like that, the stern won't rise up at the same rate of bow, so the waves will begin to rush over the stern. You should always have a check list to follow before heading out into rough water especially. 1 drain plug check, 2 belge pump check, 3 tow line already attached, 4 plastic water tight bag for all valuables such as phone, wallet, watch, etc. 5 life jackets in a known location.

Purely as an observer , there seems to have been some very cavalier, stupid attitudes by the occupants as to personal safety. The life vests were pointless as when jumping in off the sinking boat they came off, so were not tied on or secured? Seems a bit pointless? Thank goodness the rescue outcome was successful.
