Here in the Northeast U.S. when we catch a lobster that is berried we mark the lobster prior to returning it back to the water. The mark we put on the lobster is a V notch cut into the second swim let of the tail holding the lobster upside down. In our in shore fishery when we catch a lobster that has a body length 5 inches or long we throw back also. It has helped a lot in sustaining our lobster fishery.
