Boat Trailer Leaf Spring Replacement

I dodged a bullet when I discovered my trailer frame sitting on my axel. I wouldn't call this video a "how To" video but you can see that it's not all that com plicated.

I had leaf spring issues and was lucky that my trailer did not completely breakdown. I looked at a few KZbin Videos and thought I may be able to handle the job, but then I decided to call a Mobile Trailer repair guy in our area. With his experience, the job was completed in a little under 2 hours. My springs were still good, but the bracket holding the springs had issues. I damaged them on a backdown launch but did not realize it for a long time. The tires were worn due to rubbing up against the wheel Well also. I plan to do a better job on watching those brackets and leaf springs going forward. I had some upgrades to my trailer such as Side Steps. Those had to be loosened and move back a few inches in order to get the brackets to hold. The slip Sleeve on the Trailer had worn out where one of the Leaf Springs keeping bouncing against. I was lucky this time, but plan to be more aware from now on. Thanks for your video and story.

I liked that you showed some of the unexpected issues you ran into such as forgetting to get 4 U bolts. Those are the kind of things that I would do if I hadn't watched your video. End result of your work looks good.

Great job on getting the new leaf springs on your trailer!! I always spend more time finding all the parts needed than it takes for any project. Recently replaced the live well pump on boat and made 2 trips to Columbia. Thanks, Kerry

@@charlestoninshorefishing1932 Awesome. Yeah, no one was open today, so I'm calling my dealer tomorrow the see if it's under warranty, it's only a year and a half old! The only thing I'll need to figure out is how to measure to order the correct springs.

Just did the same thing. I did coat everything with corrosion X in the green can. And I mean everything. Florida saltwater fishing is hard on trailer parts.

Good job! Working on trailers, is nothing new to me. I actually made a two axle and a three axle sailboat trailer when I worked at the Metal Shop in Olathe. Check out this video:
