It’s really one of my favorite time saving tricks. Right before we head to the launch 2 of us each grab a bottle. In about 15 minutes we can take the boat from a 1 to an 8 out of 10.

The easiest way is to set out a Hydraglow green light after dark near the river and creek channels. I drift the boat with the light. After 30-60 minutes throw the cast net. You’ll get Herring and Shad that way. In mid day go way in the backs of creeks and look for bait flipping on the surface. Gizzard Shad will show the tiniest little splash revealing the entire school. 👍👍

If you check out the threads on the Hull Truth you’ll see some more good stuff from guys that clean their boats with bleach. I wouldn’t want to saturate it overnight or anything, but soak and rinse is so harmless. For real, I probably do this 100 times a year. HOWEVER if you have reservations, don’t use it. 👍👍

I used the zep mold and mildew cleaner this spring after I pulled the cover off and it looked like a new boat. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, scrub with a brush where necessary, rinse with the power washer. That powered sprayer looks handy.

Great question! Definitely NOT on aluminum. I actually should have said that in the video. I’ll put it in the description for sure. I don’t think it would structurally affect it, but would certainly oxidize the surface. I would research what other guys use for your hull type and you can still probably use the sprayer trick. What boat do you have? I’ll see what I can find out.

So many expensive brands would be nice to find something simple. Have tried Simple Green but it doesn't really cut through the salt very well.

I have been cleaning my boat deck with Clorox pre-wash for years, but Mike just made that better by using the sprayer, which I will be getting. Been doing this for years and some people thought I was nuts, but has worked for me for years. I pour about 1/2 gallon of bleach in my 50 gallon bait tank as I am filling with water, cycle the pump for about 30 minutes. Let it soak for a while then drain and rinse well. Fill with fresh water and cycle, then rinse and then fill again with clean water and add large box of baking soda, let cycle about 30 minutes, drain and rinse. Bait tank is like new after cleaned, never lost bait fish after cleaning the tank. Do the same with my boat live wells when they are nasty.

Straight bleach will bead up on the surface. You have to add soap to get it soft enough to sheathe. I use laundry detergent and bleach. You can’t save it after it’s mixed though. You must use it all or toss it. The bottle will expand and pop in a few days. It works just as well as cleanup. Cleanup is nice because you don’t have to mix anything. You can keep a full bottle ready to go 👍👍

Never tied this on my boat, but may since you mentioned it. I use 50/50 bleach and water with some Dawn dish detergent mixed when I power wash my house, works better than any expensive pressure washing cleaners I have used in the past.

Thanks brother! Not at all. But that’s a popular question. It’s actually VERY common. I’ve been doing it for so long going back to when I was a kid in the 70’s and on every boat I’ve ever worked on, including commercial boats. Every single professional boat uses bleach. Anything else just doesn’t kill mildew that fast and that cheap. I don’t have a garage or a place to keep the boat and I’m deep in the woods so it gets super-funky 😆🤢 thanks for your support brother!!

I just use a 1 gal. Sprayer and mix 50/50 bleach water. Does work well but it also dries out the gel coat really bad.

Awesome name brother!! 😆😆. I’ve had guys ask me about bleach and my gel coat and I have never EVER seen even the slightest difference in my gelcoat in any boat I’ve ever had. One boat I bought new in 2004. Sold it in 2016. That boat lived 100 lives compared to most boats 😆. Fished 11 different states. Fished on nearly 70 different bodies of water, fresh and salt. Guided on 3 different bodies, fished year-long tournament trails. I never waxed it until I sold it. I never cared if it had a shine to be honest, just cared if it had black mold all over it. Ran a buffer over it to sell it and it looked as good I remember it ever looking 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’m not a chemist, but the Sodium Hypochlorite in bleach must be similar to the high sodium levels in sea water. As long as you rinse it off I don’t think bleach can do more damage than sea water. Bleach stays on for 30 minutes, sea water is there all day. My buddy is still running that 2004 Sea Pro. It looks great. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. I wonder if there are any studies or videos on gel coats and bleach. Your name kills me bro. 😆😆

I buffed it out and the bleach seemed to bring it back almost immediately. Still I’ve tried waxing to make it easier to clean and to stain less and the bleach is definitely the easier way to go especially if you don’t care about the shine like you say. It might depend on the condition of the gel coat when you start. Either way it works great. Not sure if I’d do that on a brand new boat but I won’t ever have to worry about that in this life time.

@richie2dicks468 I’m with you 100%. It really comes down to what you use the boat for. For me it’s a fishing tool and nothing more. It’s certainly not a show piece. Oxidation comes and goes between the elements and buffing. It’s so hard to see the oxidation on a white boat even when looking for it. (I still see my 2004 that my buddy uses and I can’t see any difference. It still looks the same to me.)Mold however looks horrible from 50ft away. It’s a funny thing really. If you Google it, you will see BLEACH OXIDATION DULLS GELCOAT. If you go to the hull truth you will see everyone say I USE BLEACH ALL THE TIME WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL. So I guess everyone is right and wrong 😛. Ps. You’ll find this amusing. I had a company send me 5 gallons of hull cleaner that didn’t work as well as bleach. They get $200 for it. Says, may cause corrosion right on the label. I never tried it. I can’t recommend it to anyone, so I have no use for it. I tried sending it back and they didn’t even care. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Boat industry is strange.
