Boat cruise aboard our Sea Ray Sundancer through Ontario, Canada's 240 mile long Trent Severn Waterway. In this video we travel from Lock # 36 (the Kirkfield Lift Lock - goo.gl/maps/581DVaGcV3HwV9yz7) to Lock # 30 (Lovesick Lock - goo.gl/maps/7rVMbnNtkyWn2pLe6). Along the way, we cruise through very popular cruising destinations including Rosedale, Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon and Buckhorn.
For more information on the 'Great Loop' and 'Looper Boats', check my video here; • Great Loop & Looper Boats .
This video is part of our glorious 5-1/2 week long cruise that takes us from Lake Simcoe, through dozens of locks and right down to 'Mile Zero' of the Trent Severn Waterway. From there, we headed east to Kingston and onto the Rideau Canal for first ever visit there by water! For a look at the entire adventure, please check out the full Playlist here: • Summer 2022 Cruise

My pleasure. I'm actually working on a separate feature, with my 72 minute long 'Cruising The Trent Severn Waterway' production that I produced back in 2015. It takes one from Mile Zero at Trenton, through the entire 240 mile/386 km system, right to Port Severn. I'll be breaking it up to four chapters and will upload one per week, so keep an out for that.

I've been told that the canal in Peterborough loosing its water overnight isn't that uncommon.. One of the reasons there is no over night moorings in the canal. That's a lot of water to drain away in one night. Surprising they've never come up with a fix... Great video as always 😎
@BoatingWithBoogaboo

One of the features we like while staying at the bottom side of Ashburnham Lock (just south of the Peterborough Lift Lock) is the sound of water overflowing from the bottom side lock gates. With that in mind I'm thinking that any unexpected loss of water in the canal is intended and more than likely caused by the (sometimes) sketchy crowd that can be seen there at night 😉 Quick question for you. Don't know if you're a subscriber - regular viewer, that I do know - but I'm seeing unusually low views on my recent videos and was wondering if they're all finding their way out onto the wider KZbin audience...?

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo I am a Sub, have been since you where under 5000 :).. But yes your videos aren't getting pushed to me the way they use too. After watching many boating/cruising videos on other channels, we have come to the conclusion that we are so fortunate to be able to enjoy some pretty darn unique cruising grounds in this part of the world - all right in our own back yard. Lots more to come from this voyage - including some brand new areas for us! As an aside, we are looking forward to seeing more from your own adventures, even if they are taken during your off season.

Some parts look really narrow. is it hard to pass other large boats in places?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Жыл бұрын
There are some tight spots, but in 20 years of traveling the TSW, in boats up to a 14'-3" beam, we've never had a problem passing other boats. The situation only ever comes an issue when an approaching boat (usually the folks doing the Great Loop) get nervous and stop their vessel in a channel :-/ One has got to maintain forward momentum to control their steering, otherwise they will drift sideways and cause problems for everyone. Here's a perfect example from our 2018 cruise, as we head down-bound through the Kirkfield Cut: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXWXg4uEoKyAm9E I seriously wish that EVERY crew who are considering doing the Great Loop watch my videos beforehand to help overcome issues like this, or going through the locks. . .

I could only imagine the man hours & Ingenuity it took to build the Trent canal to connect all those lakes without modern machinery or architect drawing programs in those times.

Lots of sweat and hard labour for sure, but fortunately they did have the benefit of steam shovels, rail cars, booms and derricks to help them out. Apart from that, they also employed the help of surveyors, straight lines and the fact that water runs downhill to figure everything out. In fact, the highest lift lock (of its type) in the world was completed at Peterborough, Ontario back in 1904 and became the largest unreinforced concrete structure in the world. Not bad for 19th century technology! Here's a video I took of us passing through that engineering marvel a few years back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3jMgZZ7eMukfbM

Just out of curiosity, when passing an oncoming boat in Canada, do you pass port to port or stbd to stbd?

are there any fuel stops along the waterway?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo

Of course! Cruising in a boat that averages only 1 mile per gallon, we wouldn't get too far if there weren't ample fuel docks along the 240 miles of the Trent Severn Waterway ;-)

Is there any word on the status of Kirkfield?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Жыл бұрын
I haven't heard anything on the repairs, other than it had been operating at reduced capacity, only allowing one-way transits at the end of the season. Of course, the Kawartha Voyageur calls that spot home for the winter each year, so it had to be at least operational for them to get to the top side. If you want to see some dramatic photos of the initial incident, check out the Google Maps listing for the Kirkfield Lift Lock. Apparently a visitor happened to snap a few when (what appears to be) the lock gate on the north side chamber malfunctioned, letting a huge amount of water to careen onto the KW's forward deck area.

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo THANKS!! I saw the "incident video" and was glad I was not in the lock. What happened had run thru my mind when I was in that lock both times...hope they get it fully functional before the season starts. Great to hear from you and I hope all is well with y'all.
