love the bass line to inner city blues as well as the song. miss marvin gaye and wanted to know something more about the musicians he played with. i still have my vinyl from these days. Ended up watching Standing in the Shadows of Motown which brought me here. Great three part interview. Thank you.

Just seen Standing in the shadows of Motown here (on 2010 Xmas morning) on the tv in South Africa........and I sure tuned into Bob Babbit and his team. I'm 58, grew up in London and have 'most' of those old Motown tunes, and Stax and Atlantic and Chess all on 7" vinyls. What a time xxx and what a show yesterday. Loved it. Thanks.

Motown wouldn’t have happened without the Funk Brothers, anyone who could sing would’ve sounded great in front of those guys

Amazing story about how the financiers of the movie got involved. Definitely divine intervention!

I wonder why that bass has round wound strings?

It's a shame that the musicians, who are partly responsible for a lot of those hit records, regardless of genre, don't get as much shine as the artists do, especially session musicians. Without the musicians, the artists would not be complete. Cats, like Bob Babbitt, James Jamerson, and others, paid their dues to do what they love, and that's to perform to the best of their abilities.

It seems every interview I find with him, he as to uncomfortably hawk gear at the end. That's sort of sad. Still a legend, though. Rest in peace.
