Bob Dylan was about 21 years when he wrote that and now he's 81. He's still writing great songs and playing concerts.

Yup. "All through the summers into January/I've been visiting morgues and monasteries" - 79-year-old Dylan (at the time) had me hooked on that line!

@@StevenMichals0812 Totally agree. Key West (Philosopher Pirate) is amazing. A great song to put your head back to, with a beer and the headphones on, on a summer day.

The list of Dylan songs that I would recommend would be a very long one! "Tangled Up In Blue" is a fave for sure

Can you believe we used to sing this in church? None of the older people liked his voice at all, in fact it was like fingernails on a chalkboard to them, they didn't consider it as real singing. But they loved his songs. And this one got sung in churches all across america. It was the most amazing thing. He's got such a rich catalog, good luck with that, and it's spans a lot of years. But before you move to his electric band stuff, which by the way was quite controversial at the time, this was in the mid to late sixties, unheard of in the folk movement, and it's fantastic stuff. But he has a lot from this acoustic early. That are killer. One that I would strongly recommend is the ballad of Hollis brown. It's just him and his guitar and it is so stark and so driving and so compelling and so haunting.

Times and people are fickle. You try singing this, or the Times They are a Changing, etc., now and you may get thrown out of church for being a dirty liberal heretic or something. lol I used to be in a church guitar group and we sued to sing Peter Paul and Mary's Day is Done too. It was an anti war song. John Lennon's Imagine "Imagine there's s no heaven, no religion too, hahahha, in church? No way.

The great bluegrass band The Dillards (who also portrayed 'The Darling Family' on the old Andy Griffith show, for those who may not know) used to cover Dylan's "Walkin' Down the Line." One of my favorite humorous descriptions of Dylan's voice comes from Dillards bassist Mitch Jayne, who used to introduce the song some variation of this: "Most of you probably know who Bob Dylan is, but there may be some of you who don't. His voice is like someone cutting up old car bodies with a chainsaw. But he is a real song *writer* and we like this one real well. It's called "Walkin' Down the Line." Me personally, I love Dylan's voice. It's authentic, and you can hear the pain when it's there. And the humor, the irony, the anger, the biting sarcasm...it's all there.

you have educated yourself with the Beatles absolutely wonderfully and i suspect we'll be seeing you on a fantastic journey with Bob. The catalogue of songs is incredible and gigantic. he has Periods" where the style and everything changes for a time and over time has pretty well done them all. From this early Folk period you might like All I Really Want to Do or Gates of Eden to get a feel for the times , 64/5, and link that up with some Beatles stuff like Help!, in your mind at least and be prepared for a lengthy journey with plenty of changes. It is something to be experienced and enjoyed. I hope you love it.

Dylan started off a folk singer in the early sixties and stirred up a big fuss when he went electric in 1965. His songs were covered far and wide. Peter, Paul & Mary performed "Blowin' In the Wind" at the March on Washington in 1963. Dylan performed "Only a Pawn in Their Game" about the assassination of civil rights activist Medgar Evers two months earlier. When you're ready for more from him, check out some of these classics -- "Just Like a Woman", "Forever Young", "The Times They Are A-Changing", "Masters of War", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)", "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Desolation Row", "Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues", "All Along The Watchtower", "Like a Rolling Stone", "It's All over Now, Baby Blue", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" ...

Great to see you reacting to see you cover Bob's work. Another classic artist from the beginning of the times when people began to become aware and stand up against social injustice and the endless wars and twisted way of thinking that are no remedy to our many problems. I just downloaded a video that covered him and many artist he was connected to that wrote many such soul searching relevant songs that remain timeless. Will send you link of vid if you want.🙏🙏🤗🤗💖💖🎼🎼

The most famous of his early songs (The song's on his second album.). It was an important song during the 1960's civil-rights movement. He performed at Martin Luther King's 1963 March on Washington. He won the Nobel Price for Literature in 2016. Probably his most acclaimed album is 1966 "Blonde on Blonde." His last name is pronounced like "Dillon."

One of my favorite Dylan songs, and one that has rarely been reacted to, is "Positively Fourth Street." It is more of a revenge song but the lyrics are really catchy.

Bear in mind re: the opening line, Black men in the Southern States of the US were, in the early '60s, still routinely called "boy" by White adults; that is probably what he's getting at.

Peter, Paul and Mary actually made this song famous with their best selling version, However, they played it wrong. Made no musical to me to keep repeating the same pattern of chords every line of the verses, going to to the "five chord" ever line. Dylan goes to the root chord, then the five chord on the 2nd line, then 3rd line he goes back to the root or one chord. Makes more sense in phrasing.
