Bob Dylan concluded the final show of his US Spring Tour 2024 at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas on April 6, performing an exquisite Every Grain of Sand (with harp solo). Joined by guest guitar player Jimmie Vaughan.
"Last night in Austin, Bob Dylan played the final show of this leg of the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour. In fact, by most indications, this was the final show of the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour period. This summer he’s joining the Outlaw tour with Willie Nelson and friends, then who knows what’s next? ...
...
In the end, no final last-show-of-a-years-long-tour fanfare, no ‘thank you, crew’, band introductions now gone as well. Just one final, exquisite Every Grain of Sand and then the standing bow, lights going down, and the whole thing’s over."
(Review by Lee Ranaldo via www.flaggingdo...
Musicians:
Bob Dylan - vocals, piano, harp
Jerry Pentecost - drums
Bob Britt - guitar
Donnie Herron - steel guitar, violin
Tony Garnier - bass
Jimmie Vaughan - guitar

The number of times I've listened to this song is far too many to count. And yet, each and every listen has brought me to tears. Exquisite.

Saw Bob first with The Band on St. Valentine's Day 1974. Powerful show. I was 20 and somewhat powerful myself. This here is so special. At this stage of life I sit and contemplate my life and realize that his music has been there with me all the way. Shadows are falling. I'm in awe of this man and his gifts to us. Thank you, Bob.

Deeply beautiful and spiritually reflective. Thank you Bobfan!🫶 Well it will be a change for Bob on that WN... Outlaw tour and then as I've heard talk of him resuming R&RW world tour in the Fall across the pond from me. 🙌

It's quite a way to finish, isn't it? Just exquisite. Except that Bob Dylan's career has no endings, just new beginnings. "So I’ll make my stand And remain as I am And bid farewell and not give a damn” Thank you for posting this!

I really hate to see him slip into the mists of history, but at least his music will forever be timeless, long after he and we are all gone. Those who take the time to discover it in the future will be enrichened.

There is Bob and then there is everyone else. I am a atheist, and a strong one at that. Best argument for a God would be, Bob believes. If I were to ever change my mind, that would be the reason.

The thoughts of Bob Dylan passing at some time , and indeed this extraordinary song speaks profoundly to our mortality, brings a flood of tears. When he passes, I can’t but help to envision the whole world or at least many millions of us from across the globe, weeping deeply and feeling an unfathomable well of gratitude that we were in his presence.

It reminds me of the former times when Bob was first time in Germany. And he sent out to 80.000 young people, as I was one, the message that new years can begin in our country, after the cruelty of 2nd WW; it was the sign of forgiveness. He was and is a great soul . Thank you Bob for joining my life! 🌹❣️

Interesting to note that the jazzman spirit in Dylan that saw him do extremely effective near complete REWRITES of Serve Somebody and Tangled Up In Blue-- Dylan hasn't changed a syllable of this masterpiece. These last years have been salad years for Dylan. His new music this past decade has smoked and smouldered with Dylan singing and phrasing on top of music with a lot of tension but with the music loud enough to augment Dylan's fantastic brilliant phrasing without overwhelming it like much of the gut bucket rock and roll threatened to do for many many years on The NeverEnding tour going with this new music more restrained but just as intense and interesting Dylan put his vocals out front where they belong and he doesn't have to shout over the super loud gut bucket rock and roll and this helps save his voice and it helps Dylan sing with great care and nuanced timing and phrasing.

Yeah, like he wants to get all the words of a line out, in one quick torrent. He's been doing that, off and on, for many years - like he's forgotten the role that phrasing plays in a melody. Seems like he does it more when he's at a keyboard - but he certainly didn't use to.
