Everything nowadays sounds so pristine and sterilized, so I love going back and listening to how raw these live takes were. All of the imperfect timings and missed notes are easy to hear when you isolate and analyze this piano, but when you hear the whole mix together, those imperfections just add soul to the overall track. Nobody can play the piece exactly like the pianist did here, maybe not even the pianist himself. The imperfections make it near impossible to replicate and are a result of the vibes in the studio during a recording session one day in 1965. This piano circumvents forgery, and the entire album is a masterpiece of music and poetry.

As I read the comments I see that the pianist might be Paul Griffin. To him give praise for a great performance. Also, I have to commend Bod Dylan. For it's his glorious chord progression that is the stage for this masterful piano solo. I've said it many time s to many people, Bob Dylan is not just a great lyric writer, he is also a master of constructing beautiful and original songs from his distinctive chord progressions.

Help!! I’ve just gone to Clinton Heylin’s book The Recording Sessions and Paul Griffen is not credited for any of the Blonde sessions. His musicians list for piano at the session this track was recorded and which was one of the first completed in NY on 25 Jan 66 and which made it to the album is either Dylan himself or Richard Manuel from the Band (or the Hawks as they still were then). Brian Hinton lists same. Are they both wrong?? I’m new to this so who is it here???? Help Mr Rosen or others here who seem well convinced it was indeed Paul Griffen!! PS Paul Griffen is listed by CH for piano on Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited album sessions.Eeek!!!!

no quise decir I didn't mean Para tratarte tan mal To treat you so bad No deberías tomártelo tan personal. You shouldn't take it so personal no quise decir I didn't mean Para hacerte tan triste To make you so sad Simplemente estabas allí, eso es todo. You just happened to be there, that's all Cuando te vi decir "adiós" a tu amigo y sonreír When I saw you say "goodbye" to your friend and smile Pensé que se entendía bien. I thought that it was well understood Que volverías en un rato That you'd be comin' back in a little while No sabía que estabas diciendo "adiós" para siempre I didn't know that you were sayin' "goodbye" for good Pero, tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber But, sooner or later, one of us must know Que acabas de hacer lo que se supone que debes hacer That you just did what you're supposed to do Tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber Sooner or later, one of us must know Que realmente traté de acercarme a ti That I really did try to get close to you no pude ver I couldn't see lo que podrías mostrarme What you could show me Tu bufanda había mantenido tu boca bien escondida Your scarf had kept your mouth well hid no pude ver I couldn't see ¿Cómo podrías conocerme? How you could know me Pero dijiste que me conocías y yo creía que sí But you said you knew me and I believed you did Cuando me susurraste al oído When you whispered in my ear Y me preguntó si me iría contigo o con ella And asked me if I was leavin' with you or her No me di cuenta de lo que escuché. I didn't realize just what I did hear No me di cuenta de lo joven que eras I didn't realize how young you were Pero, tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber But, sooner or later, one of us must know Que solo estás haciendo lo que se supone que debes hacer That you're just doin' what you're supposed to do Tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber Sooner or later, one of us must know Que realmente traté de acercarme a ti That I really did try to get close to you no pude ver I couldn't see Cuando empezó a nevar When it started snowin' Tu voz fue todo lo que escuché Your voice was all that I heard no pude ver I couldn't see a donde íbamos Where we were goin' Pero dijiste que sabías y tomé tu palabra But you said you knew an' I took your word Y luego me dijiste más tarde, mientras me disculpaba And then you told me later, as I apologized Que solo estabas bromeando, no eras realmente de la granja That you were just kiddin' me, you weren't really from the farm Y te dije, mientras me sacabas los ojos con las garras, que yo An' I told you, as you clawed out my eyes that I Realmente nunca quise hacerte daño Never really meant to do you any harm Pero, tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber But, sooner or later, one of us must know Que acabas de hacer lo que se supone que debes hacer That you just did what you're supposed to do Tarde o temprano, uno de nosotros debe saber Sooner or later, one of us must know Que realmente traté de acercarme a ti That I really did try to get close to you
