kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqnFlpWMrsZ3etk Bob & George rented 12 hours of studio time, here's almost an hour from that day. Charlie Daniels was there, he credits his success for the publicity from playing on Bob's Nashville Skyline. PS: I think Bob was searching for songs for Another Self-Portrait, it was released a month later. 😎

And Lawyers Guns and Money too , these were the three Warren Zevon covers in the last leg 2002 US Fall Tour (october and november) , and Dylan did another great covers at these us concerts as Not Fade Away , Friend of The Devil (Robert Hunter) the End of the Innocence (Don Henley /B. Hornsby) , Old Man (Neil Young) , Carrying a Torch (Van Morrison) , Brown Sugar (Jagger/Richards) and of course this live debut of Something .

On 29 november 2001 George Harrison died , who always stayed very close to Dylan , his friendship went way beyond music , they shared confidences , common friends and problems . That is why no one understood very well why Dylan had not come to his funeral , not even a call to his family or a press' note . One year after his family and E. Clapton organized a memorial at The Royal Albert Hall in London , Concert for George ,exactly one year after his death . Dylan rejected to attend , but the 2nd night at MSG (2 weeks before ) Dylan did a third encore , the live debut of Harrison's ''Something'' which he dedicated to George and Dylan introduces so : '' There's a tribute coming . I guess it's the next week or the week after , it's over in England , for George Harrison , and lot's of people played this song but I'm not sure who . But we can't make it , I just want to do this song for George because we were such good buddies '' ... really is a delightful and touching cover , a great surprise for a sad farewell .

After his 1991 tour of Japan - his first series of concerts since 1974 - George Harrison spoke of a possible Traveling Wilburys tour: "... We could all sing "Blowin' in the Wind" AND BOB COULD SING "SOMETHING". Or we could just sing our individual songs and make them Wilbury tunes, as if we'd recorded them that way. Whatever it was, we could do it".Sadly this never happened. But this was George's dream or thought. Perhaps this is why this performance is even more touching.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s such a beautiful song. Dylan sang it that night as a tribute to George Harrison, who’d died almost exactly a year earlier. He explained that he’d been unable to be at tribute concert to Harrison held several months earlier because he was touring at the time, so he wanted to play it in his honor now, “because we were such good friends.” m Dylan has, though, included many cover numbers in his repertoire over the years, both when performing live and on some albums. Among them, Self Portrait from 1970 was a collection of nearly all covers, and two consecutive releases in the early 1990s, Good As I Been to You and World Gone Wrong were entire albums of covers. Then there are his three recent “Sinatra” albums - or more accurately “American Songbook” deep dives into popular songs mostly from the ‘40s and ‘50s. In many of his live concerts, Dylan has typically mixed in some covers with the selections from his own huge catalog. Most typically they’re drawn from traditional folk, country, and blues, as well as a smaller number of more contemporary examples from those genres. In 2002, though, Dylan added to his concerts an unusual assortment of songs from contemporary rock peers including the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Don Henley, and Warren Zevon. Before he began writing his own, Dylan was by his own account - and that of others - a voracious collector of songs, the sheer number and variety of which apparently astounded and fascinated him as a young man, the more he delved into them. People who’ve seen it say he personally has one of, if not the largest, most impressive and expansive record collections ever, and an encyclopedic knowledge of everything in it. This was made apparent during his Sirius Satellite streaming Theme Time Radio Hour series, in which he played and discussed an incredible array of eclectic and often obscure recordings organized each week around a different topic and pulled from that monumental collection of records he’s amassed through the years. 🌺💕💐😉

@@ArturArtist I didn't know that about this song, that's very sweet of Bob to do that for George, I know he was deeply saddened by his passing. The loss of a loved one is hard... I have special memories of first learning the guitar, trying to attempt to play this song, sounds really good on a Kay electric... ❤️ Still one of my favourites. I didnt know that, very interesting 🤔 I gotta check those cover albums out for sure... I heard the Sinatra vibe, literally sounds so good from Bob, he almost sounds like Tony Bennett sometimes. I honestly feel so much peace when listening to that genera from Bob. Very cool, I had no idea that he was as vastly into collecting music... well maybe I did... 😅We have that in common then, prolly not as much on my end, but I love music myself... I hope I have a collection of my own someday. Music is everything to me in this stage of my life. It's saved me many times... And it's given me answer when I didn't have any. Wait, TTRH was all from his personal collection??? That's amazing I love that series, I was listening a lot during the summer last year, I got really into it. Great working music... Bob literally has the best voice for radio! I could only hope he does another series one day, you know I'd be waiting in line to hear it 😂 Thank you for commenting, Carol. I learned a little more about the man, he seems like such a wonderful soul. I am grateful for your time. 🙂

This Song-Master can “approximate” the lyrics WITHOUT DETRACTING from an astonishingly magnificent performance. As an aside: It seemed to me that when Bob signaled to Charlie Sexton to take a solo Charlie was surprised. “Huh? Me? Now?” Yet, I found Charlie’s solo to be spot-on, EXCELLENT. (And, Larry Campbell seemed pleased too). Lovely, lyrical bass part from Tony Garner. What a TREAT! 🙏
