Thank you for posting this!!! I’ve loved this song a long time but never understood the verses.

I'm glad you liked it! This was my old youtube acct, I don't use it anymore. But anyway that was my best attempt at figuring out the words that he was singing. I wish Dylan had made it into a full song and recorded it. That would have been awesome. Old Crow Medicine Show did good with it.

Thank you so much! I love how Dylan music always brings people together, effortlessly, even if it's just to decipher lyrics to a song on the cutting room floor. Thanks, OP. After trying for years to decipher these lyrics (without ProTools, etc), I finally found them.

Hers's the way I hear the versus: You don.t know it, but I've changed my life Seems I'm looking at the road tonight I don't care where she's gonna go tonight, rollin' Hey now mama can you say good bye You have that ticket and a wondering why I know its so right, but I don't cry, rollin' Roadside running on the Rio Grand Got my darlin' on a framer's land Its all that something and I understand, rollin' Hey not looking at the road tonight Glare is shining on a bulldog light You know that feeling, but it must be right, rollin'

Probably the best thing about this recording is that it's just barely audible enough that different people can come up with different lyrics. It's like a universal song unique for everyone who hears it. It brings out a person's natural creativity. Thanks for you comments!

@@talondesforges 100%. There's another song I like, by Alt-J, that has mumbled lyrics at the end (Bloodflood - Pt. II). So many people have come to their own conclusion of what those lyrics are, and it means something different to everyone who listens and I love that.

Instead of “Hey now mama can you say goodbye.” I heard “Look now Molly since you said goodbye.”

I believe line 24 is "Rock me mama any way you could feel
@tdmcdaris8 жыл бұрын
or it may be which is probably the more likely is "Rock me mama in the way you should feel"
@talondesforges8 жыл бұрын
I listened again and don't here the word 'could' or 'should' in there. There is a slight extra sound after the word 'you' so it could be 'Rock me mama any way you'll feel' or 'Rock me mama any way you'd feel'. These are English contractions you'll recognize if it's your main language. But it doesn't seem likely to me because it adds an extra syllable to the line and throws off the rhythm a little bit. Also I don't hear it in line 46. Probably he would sing it the same way each time since it's part of the chorus. It's open to interpretation since the recording isn't completely clear. This is just my best effort at transcribing it. I could be wrong in places. Especially the first lines 1 through 10

I personally think OCMS did the best cover but it's weird that any covers since (Darius Rucker, Against Me) emulate the OCMS which changed lyrics, made adjustments and added instruments.
@CooperViolins4 жыл бұрын
I agree Old Crow is best, Darius is just a copy, Originals are always best!
@wesbryan45905 ай бұрын
To be clear, Wagon Wheel was written by OCMS. What you’re hearing is a Dylan demo from which the chorus was lifted from.

Nah bro, crow medicine show finished the song, Ketch (the singer) actually got credit along with Dylan for it if I recall correctly. But I do like this version a lot, wish dylan would have finished it. Darius did have a great cover though.

@@blackbird6129 Yeah, BBird it was Old Crow not Darius "the poacher" who took the sketch to it's next incarnation...Dylan found out about Crows version & was willing to share copyrights & uhhhhh profits....because of it's ascent in popularity, years later Bob 'generously' gave them a bunch of OLDE Lyrics to kick around.....an album was made....but.......

Even this poor quality demo is way better than any other version of the song. If Dylan finished it, it would've been phenomenal. OCMC changed the lyrics and made it into just another hacky shit country song which Darius then covered.
