"Tomorrow Is A Long Time" is one of Dylan's most achingly beautiful love songs. It is about wanting to be with someone from whom you are apart. In Dylan's case that person was specific and real: Suze Rotelo, his girlfriend and lover between 1961 and 1964 and a muse and influence on his growth as an artist like no other woman. I love this version of the song, but in the context of the World Tour '78 and the way in which it developed and changed, it was perhaps a poor fit. We can appreciate now for what it was....an uncut diamond left unpolished and left behind.
