Bob Geldof 1997 Uncut Interview

In 1997, we made a documentary on the 30th anniversary of the Georgia Straight newspaper, "The Last Streetfighter".
This is the uncut interview we did with Bob Geldof KBE for the doc.
The interview happened the day after Michael Hutchence of INXS killed himself. Bob was very gracious to continue with our plans to do the interview in his home.

@@suzyroc6267 she was actually a nightmare for both. She wouldn't let Bob see his girls and he had been completely faithful in the relationship. He was right to fight for his children. The misconception is he wanted Paula back, but he didn't. He wanted his girls. So, while Paula was irritating Bob, she was blatantly playing and harassing Michael.

After Michael’s sister mentioned in “Mystify” that Paula had BPD, it made sense. Michael H wasn’t her first affair. She was cheating on Bob with Rupert Everett for years. She created chaos and in the end, didn’t put her children first. Really sad.

He wanted kids 50 percent of the time. He planted drugsin Paula's home. He was a butt then and now. Only good thing he did was take care of the little girl of Paula and Micheal. Weird how that whole thing turned out. She was heartbroken that Micheal died. Just couldn't go on living without him. Turned to drugs as a result. Had periods of sobriety but relapsed which cause her death due to an overdose. Don't think she tried to kill herself.

@@kathleendobens6648 Spot on!! But she may have tried to kill herself, she had several suicide attempts, one before Michael took his life. Peaches death is the most peculiar. At the time of her burial they still didn't know what killed her because no drugs were found in her system to confirm an overdose. here are no articles - that I can find - that say why they eventually ruled drug overdose.

I watched although not wanting to! I noticed Bobs leg was moving constantly which is a sign of nervousness but, could only see his head. I wonder why he never gave eye contact for more than a second or two?? I wish someone would take a look and notice that on so many level's Micheal did not kill himself and, I will always believe that he was MURDERED!!!

For whatever might be said about the bob/paula/michael debacle, he is to be blessed for raising tiger lily. I think she's had a life reasonably sheltered from excess and drama, with her sisters. For that, I think Bob is to be commended.

@@s.m.9285 True, why would one want their enemy's child who's *not* a blood relative? Michael's sister tried to get custody but she didn't have multi-millions, so he won. She always looks so sad and not had a drama free anything, so very oddly, her half sister died exactly like mom. The odds of that many "accidental" deaths are like being hit by lightning-twice.

Michael Hutchison killed himself because he was suffering from depression and was under the care of a psychiatric, NOT because of Bob Geldof. OF COURSE Geldof was pissed off and probably rough on Hutchison, his wife left him for Hutchison. But, to think he would kill himself and leave Paula to, possibly, go BACK to Geldof, that seems a stretch. More likely, his relationship with Paula Yates had become problematic and he decided to check out. You can dislike this guy all you want, but you can't blame him for ALL the ills of the world, people.

Bob is great under interrogation. He was hooded and kidnapped in Palestine. Taken to meet Arafat managed not to insult his skin condition or laugh out loud when Arafat compared the top of his leprosy covered head to the Dome of the Rock because they both were round. Never piped up once about being Jewish either. Nerves of steel.
