Damn bro- You hard yo - 11... I grew up on 28th & 8th...my first show was Queen @ da Garden’77... I was 12... I got my ticket working for a scalper ...he paid me 5 bucks every time I copped him 4 Billy Joel tix which my older brother sent me down to buy...made $45 plus the ticket for Queen that night...I got home, gave my brother the 2 Billy tix ... I remember they were $10.50 ea. Then I asked him if he would roll me a jay for the show ... he said I could have one if I could roll it myself ...so I broke up a couple of my Marlboro reds... it took about 6 or 7 tries...Now all my friends say “ Damn you can roll. Much RESPECT JOE

Yeah, I was at the second show on Saturday September 20th 1980. Never heard of Bob Marley but went to see the Commodores. Bob Marley won me over with his great performance. He changed me forever and I am now a disciples of REGGAE. He truly was and still is a prophet.

I remember being at that concert and how flat MSG was after Bob Marley finished. He encored with "Could you be loved" which brought the house down. When the Commodores played next, there was no energy in the building. Everyone was sitting in their seats. It was startling the difference between the two bands. One minute you're standing up and shouting and being sucked into the atmosphere, the next, your sitting in your seat wondering what happened. Bob Marley truly was a hard act to follow.

+Jbfg1 Interesting. My father was a huge Commodores fan. He talks about experiencing Bobs performance that night and how he developed a deeper appreciation for music afterward. Like their father, Damian and Stephen are touring around the world, spreading the message, performing in front of majority white audiences. They are especially loved and appreciated in European countries. I'm interested in your opinion on what it will take for conscious reggae music to really cross over in the States, which is what Bob wished to accomplish before his untimely departure?

Cari D. further crossing will continue when American mainstream music industry understands that there is NO MORE BOB! nor more like him, he was the most famous but not nessacerly the standard standard,there are many tributaries and stylings associated with the genre,but bob's and cris Blackwell's interpretation is the most succesfully marketed version

HEADLINER IS HEADLINER! You can bet your bottom dollar that the legendary Bob Marley being the HEADLINER for any show that he was going to be the Natural Mystic blowing through the air on the stage, and the Commodores learnt that vital and important lessons! One Luv ❤️!!!

I was on stage right from the start of the show all the way thru to the end,Bob started without Earl " Wire" Lindo who was MIA.He got no sound check so instead of starting the normal way with Rastaman Vibration, he chose to start with Natural Mystic instead and used that opening song as his sound check song. After that song Natural Mystic which sent the message of how the evening's program would be in the end, he went back into his song of blessing and warning Rastaman Vibration. Wire Lindo turned about 20 mins later when I was sent by GFitzBartley and Skill Cole to go down to the security at the backstage door to tell the head security that Wire Lindo was a member of the BMW group He had given his laminate pass to a female as he figured his face would be enough to convince anyone who he was and that he was a member of the BMW group,that was never to be. After clearing Wire with the security desk he rejoined the group on or about the 4th or 5th song.What happened after the performance between Bob and Wire in the dressing is all told in my book "Reggae My Life Is". The MSG shows was the last show that Wire played with BMW, he was replaced on the Pittsburgh show Sept 23rd by Ian Wynter p/k/a Natty Wailer. However due to the sudden illness of Bob the rest of the tour was canceled indefinite,the pics posted here during the playing of the audio are all from shows in Europe and not from the MSG shows, pity they didn't post some still pics from the nite's performance.

I married my now wife 5 years later on the 11th July.Amazingly our first child ( daughter) was born on Feb 6TH 1986....Bob Marleys birthday was also Feb 6th! We named her Kimberley....switch the M and the B around in my daughters name and you get B Merley, as near to the legends name as we could get. My father in-laws name ( before his early death was Bob, who had a sister named Rita). My wife and I have just visited St Anns, Bobs Birth place and where he is laid to rest with his brother, and where his mother and family members are also laid to rest, very emotional day, we were there Feb 2016. You MUST go it is outstandingly emotional.

It is said that Bob had a minor stroke during this show. And after the show, wich he the day before invited Dionne Warwick and others to attend, he was not his normally animated self. He locked himself inside a room for himself while all others were celerabrating the historical concert. The next day Bob Marley fell ill and was told that he had so much cancer in his body that it was a miracle that he was still standing up and alive. .He was so powerfull that it was hard for everyone to understand. Listen to the powerfull singing in "Could you be loved" when he rapped "Get up, get up, get, up, get up now, get up now" According to Marcia Griffiths the whole stadium stood up and greeted the legend at that point.

The year is 1980 at Madison Garden. There was no time for sound check and mixing all the sound / instruments / vocals etc. The house is packed and everyone is in panic mode. Bob pulled his musicians and sound people aside. He tells them the plan...we are going to begin with the bass slowly but gradually increase the volume. We are going to introduce each instrument while the sound is mixed. Then we will jam ...The beginning of Natural Mystic was born right there and then. Madison Square Garden loved it and they had NO clue...The Commodores lost the battle that day to the BM and the W...

I am leading a world moviment in the internet and the main objective is we, the fans of Bob, start to pressure the family on the social medias to make them liberate all the unrealesed songs and videos from Bob! I created a page on facebook, named by "Bob Marley Last tour"... 🤜🤛🙌👏 We, Bob's fan deserve to see ALL the unrealeased material of Bob! The Zimbabwe concert, Milan, Smile Jamaica, New Zeland, One Love Peace Concert (with the final song One Love, after Jah Live) and a lot more! It is a crime what the Marley family has been doing since his death! The only album released with Bobś songs was Confrontation in 1983! We, the fans, must start to pressure the family EVERYDAY on social medias to make them release that rare material! Make the DVDs (or release on the internet charging a fair price) and SHARE the amount of money (millions) with the producers, the Local TVs or with whoever owns the images!! The family must stop thinhing only in profit, profit! That is the major reason for the killing of the planet earth! They must start thinking in the word share and release ALL the rare songs and the foootage of Bobś concert! As Bob sayd, in his last words for Stephen "Money can buy life!!" So do it what he said!! LETS GET UP AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS AGAINST THAT CRIME!! 🤜🤛🙌👏

The first show Bob opened up for Lionel Richie & The Commodores. And after Bob's set they came on stage. But realized that some people were leaving their seats and not been interested in them. They were kept shouting for Bob. So. Bob blew them off. On the next day they've done the opening act and Bob closed it.

@cancanz

Bro it was not a stupid idea. I can imagine Commodore feeling great about Bob Marley and the Wailers opening up for them. It was like an ego trip. But after Bob took the stage, it was all electric. I went back and checked the New York Times news pieces of that time, it said: Bob Marley was electric, Commodore was a letdown. In short, the takeaway is never let your ego get in the way, just go out and do your thing and good things happen.@@zabluoc4549

Bob deliberately played "support" to Lionel Richie for this concert to reach a black audience (even though he was vastly superior to Richie). When Bob finished its said half the crowd left and the half that stayed were left shouting for more Wailers.
