This song will always have a special place in my heart, im 20 right now, and when I was little, about 10, this was my first favourite song. However, I didnt understand the lyrics since I didnt know english at all. But my grandpa used to play this song to me. He was actually my step grandpa, but I grew up with him since I was born. My father never let me call him a “grandpa” since according to him he wasnt, so I had to call him “friend” all my life. So he called me that too. Now when I come back to this song and I understand the lyrics, I always burst into tears, thanks to one particular line. “Good friends we have, good friends we have lost, along the way” May he rest in peace together with Bob

Bob Marley wrote over 230 songs and only one was actually about marijuana, Kaya. His songs are about God, equality, and the on-going struggles of daily life being repressed by a totalitarian government. If people can't see passed the few pictures of Bob Marley smoking pot and generalize his songs based on those images then they do not understand Bob Marley's music at all. And I feel sorry for them for not understanding that time in history and his importance.

I can just imagine how Bob Marley impacted his generation. I was born 13 days after his death but I grew up with his music for my father was one of his big fans even though he didn't understand a single English word. And men are our sons fathers grandfathers uncles~ and should be honored, respected, loved. We need each other. We should always be kind to each other for we never know what battle another is going through. The man that sent me the link to this is the love of my life. He is everything I never thought I deserved. I thank God each day and night, that HE thought I DID deserve it. And he is my reward for waiting so long, enduring loneliness, and praying thousands of prayers; and it last God answered. I know I knew immediately he was MY true love. I think he did too but was reluctant to acknowledge it. For 1 year to the day, I waited until the 364th day... Now finally we are almost together. (We are, but he's in denial. His words and more his actions shout to me He loves me. My everything.... I will always love this song! It speaks to call of us.

Take it from a Jamaican, he's singing to all the women (especially his Jamaican women) who have to cry about lack of food for their children, lack of better social conditions, them can't finding jobs, etc. It is a social indictment on society at large saying paraphrased "no don't cry, everything will be allright as long as I am here". Bob Marley was a lover of justice and equality not "no woman no drive" foolishness

Listen to this legendary solo lead by Al Anderson the most underrated reggae lead guitarist.. You'll know he's Junior Marvin's senior when you compare this lead here and the one on live at rainbow hall video. This one is the one on live album released in 1975 and it was this album that launched Bob to stardom. Al also played all the lead guitar solos on the best reggae album " Babylon by bus" and most people don't know this. When they see Marvin Junior play on lively up yourself, they think he's the main wailers lead soloist but it's actually Al Anderson. Doesn't dance and play rock guitar not the low frequency Junior Marvin's lead type. Watch concrete jungle live at Santa Fe or so .

If you wound up here because you were crying about your situation...take solace that nothing lasts forever...good or bad...100% of life is how you react to events...sometimes you will think your way out of sorrow...other times you can't see the forest for the trees...what matters is that you hang in there and keep going. Your story will keep unfolding and eventually good times and yes even bad times will come again...but you will be stronger. You will survive. You are loved. And you are worth being loved.

This song is like happiness in a bottle for me. I remember being 7 years old, skating around my old house in pink rollerblades covered in dinosaur stickers, listening ti this song with my family. I would screech along with the tune and try to sing the lyrics but i never could😂 and then i also remember listening to it down the street at my family’s friends house, and pur parents would all sit in the boat in the backyard in there bathing suuts and cowboy hats, with there beer and music, and they would laugh and play this song. Plus i can relate to the lyrics, like alot. And then of course we just HAD ti move away from home, from my special place, which was a super happy tiny junky house, and so i cried my self to sleep every might which was weird cause im one of those people who cant shed a tear even when they want to. So then i stumbled on this song one day and it was like that “OHHHHHH YA WOW I REMEMBER THIS” feeling. I guess it kinda helped. To now whenever i miss my old home i close my eyes and listen to this song and try and imagine im back at home. So yeah, thanks bob

Isn't this song, 'No Woman, Nuh Cry'? As it turns out, the original version of the song was sung slightly differently than the live version which made it famous. In the original, Marley was singing, ‘No woman, nuh cry’ which becomes hugely significant because the word ‘nuh’ is Jamaican for don’t. In essence, he's singing a song to his wife Rita telling her not to cry for him when he leaves. That's the way I heard it anyways.

He’s referring to the queens occupation of his country. Without the Queen of England’s oppression on his people, they would not cry.

The song actually came from something Marley saw in Jamaica back in those times the government would come and take children and this song came about when a woman’s children were taken

This is the most definitive performance of this song. The percussion and bass, the voices, the staccato hand clapping, the bass, the Hammond B3, the guitar, even the sounds of the crowd, are all working magically.
