I totally get your and many others' caution about this project. I'm hopeful and relieved that The Marley family is involved. I realize many wanted an authentic Jamaican actor in the lead but with this being the Hollywood version they want to make money. Kingsley seems to be a good choice, we will see as more trailers come how he fits in the role. I think I worry less about who the director and the writers are as long as the Marley family approves of the story and casting.

Yeah, Hollywood will do what they will. Unfortunately. this isn't a full blown Hollywood thing otherwise, they'd have a real budget and get some real power behind the project. But hey, yes, if the Marley family is on board, should be okay. But that's also no guarantee. They can have input and co-produce, but ultimately, Hollywood will do as it sees fit to maximize profit. I would like to see the movie, he died way, way too soon. great music! powerful music. I don't think the WHOLE truth of his death was ever told. just my 2 cents.

I’m excited about this movie…. But for many of the reasons you shared, equally leery. And although I read that the family endorsed the decision to cast a British/Trinidadian actor, I can’t help but feel disappointed that a Jamaican actor wasn’t found. Maybe, as you stated re: a director, Hollywood was looking for someone who has put in the work… and I know you mentioned this guy won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Malcolm X. But would have been nice to see a Jamaican man in the role…. I plan to go in with an open mind and heart tho. P.S. The Whitney Houston movie is literally still sitting in my Netflix saved movies, where it’s been for months. I’ve just not been able to muster up the interest to watch

Well, I'm not sure I mentioned him winning critical acclaim for playing Malcolm, just mentioned that he's recently known for that role. (Personally, I didn't think he did such a good job at all.) Yeah, ig guess having an actual Jamaican could have made a small difference. Yet to be seen. You can just leave the Whitney pic in your saved movies, you'll be fine. lol. As a Jamaican that's not my main issue I know in America identity politics is a big deal for you all but our motto is out of many 1 people. If a Trini plays Bob Marley in a movie & he looks like him & and act that's all that should be important. Trinidadians & Afro Jamaicans look almost identical to each other with similar food & culture etc. My main issue is why the family didn't make Skip Marley play his grandfather he looks n sounds exactly like him. Idk how much power the family have when it comes to casting but Skip would've been the perfect choice. The actor playing him doesn't have a very good Caribbean accent hell he doesn't even sound Trini that's the main issue that everyone should be talking about.

@@mugenryukyu199 Yes, agreed, I wasn't so worried and didn't mention he was from as I don't think that has much to do with it. As for the accent, yeah, I think between that and gettin' the locs wig correct throughout the film, those will be the issues. We'll see. Thanks for watching/commenting!
