Saw this tour when he played Duke University on Halloween 1990. So good to see this video! I seem to recall he didn’t play BSOR at Duke either - I was bummed as I love that song!

This was the tour that introduced me to Mr. Mould. Worked my way back to Husker Du just in time for Sugar. The rest is history. :)

I saw him on this tour at The Ranch Bowl in Omaha, Nebraska. My friends and I showed up early and he was just hanging out and playing pinball. He sat down and talked with us for about an hour and could not have been a nicer guy. It was truly great to meet a musical hero and have them be just as cool as you imagined.

By a strange twist of fate, I got to sit next to him at dinner in DC. It was with his DC gay friends, and none of them really 'knew' who he was. I had to pinch myself, and not be a fan-boi :-)

Outstanding! I was lucky enough to see Bob on his Workbook AND Black Sheets of Rain tour at The Cotton Club when I resided in Atlanta. We also saw Bob acoustic at The Point around the same era. I was also fortunate enough to see SUGAR at Liberty Lunch in Austin in '92. Just saw him this year in Austin on his Silver Age tour with my 14 year old son - he's a huge fan!

For a guy who never made it to the arena rock status, Bob influenced a lot of great guitarist. Including me an absolute hack.

Not so much Bob himself, but Husker Du could've been on the stadium/arena rock circuit if they kept their shit together past the year 1987. I truly believe that. However, it is arguable whether or not that would've been a positive thing, or whether or not they would've found an alternative path toward self-sabotaging their own mainstream success, if it weren't a break-up/disbanding that did it first.

"Out of your Life" and "Hanging Tree" side by side are wonderful! By the time he hits Poison Years, though...he's hitting his rage. Damn... The guitar solo just tears you apart. The pain and raw angst and anger of these two albums. I saw this tour in Milwaukee when I was 19.

I seen a lot of rock n roll shows. This one may have been the best AND loudest (Oct 1990, Chicago @ the Riveria). Sensory memory: standing center in back third of room letting the sonic waves from Bob's strat occasionally tip me back on my heels. Righteous.

The loudest Bob show I've seen was later this same year in Cincinnati for the BSOR tour. I could feel the sound waves compressing my chest and sucking the energy right out of me

Saw him at the Rave in Milwaukee, same month. My ex swore she would never go to another Bob show. It all worked out. Good god that was loud, and fun. Luckily have been able to see him there, and elsewhere , many times since. If you get a notification, I apologize in advance.

can confirm... saw him at Grinnell College, probably same tour (fall 1990, I think) and it was SO LOUD. unreal. My whole body was vibrating and he nearly shook the floor-to-ceiling glass out of the frames.

I know Bob displayed displeasure that there were bootleg videos of his stuff but this is captured genius.Sounds so good.I love those first two solo albums by Bob (Workbook & Black Sheets Of Rain) so the setlist is perfect in my opinion.

Good to find this here. Thank you. I'm no expert, but I feel like he has not done "Hanging Tree" live all that much over the years. Of course it was new at the time of this show. Anyway, one of his most powerful songs, & he nailed it here.

I saw Bob in '89 at the London Astoria and he did some amazing (and quite out of character I thought) behind the back playing and rolling on the floor histrionics during this song. From what I recall from then, other times I've seen him live or on film, the sight of Bob sans guitar with microphone in hand 'singing' is very unusual. Rare footage indeed and an unexpected treat. Thanks again for posting!

I think Bob invented that intriguing "guitar twirl" move (see 1:05:30). He does this in the "It's Too Late" video too. Kinda funny.

Interesting that he didn't play Black Sheets of Rain that night, as I've always seen that as one of his signature pieces from that era. Luckily I got to hear him play it in Atlanta (probably the night before or after this show). Many thx for posting such rare footage!

YOU GOTTA WATCH 'Whichever Way the Wind Blows' (~58:10 - 1:09:00) - seriously good, and must be as Huskeresque as Bob has been in all the time since there was Husker Du, captured on film anyway. Paul, a suggestion: cut this bit as a separate clip. It is truly awesome.

Random musing: I think I would've given anything to hear Warren Zevon cover either 'Hardly Getting Over It' or 'Makes No Sense At All' during his "Learning To Flinch" era/tour.

Ha, ha, ha - man of mystery! No, not at all: Kevin Whitehead, just like to keep the 'tuftyjr' alias for no real reason. The Astoria gig was pretty special, but might be best kept as a faded memory rather than a dodgy recording! Your call though. cheers, Tufty Jr.

I saw Sugar on the Beaster tour and they were very good. Saw them later on the FUEL tour and they were off tempo and kind of sucky. After that I noticed that whenever I'd see BM live he always speeds up the tempo. Just perform it like you recorded it. I didn't throw down 22 bucks to hear a different version of these songs.
