the reason you find old and new graves mixed like that could be the difference between an older grit layout to a newer grit layout where the graves are tighter next to each other with the older grit that had more space in between graves that leaves spaces between the graves that could easily fit 1 if not 2 graves in some instances and if the graveyard is rather small then burying the newer in between the older makes it that a churchyard does not have to expand saving money from the community in the long run.
