Great stuff, as always, guys. "Leon Russell's guitar player". That was Don Preston. I saw Leon at the Royal Albert Hall in 1971 with Don in the band with his original Gibson Explorer. That was the first and probably only example I've ever seen in the flesh. Don Preston also played on the Concert For Bangla Desh and the Explorer can be seen on the DVD and in the booklet which came with the 3LP box set. It's rumoured that Clapton tried to buy the guitar from Don, but he wouldn't sell. As you said Eric ended up with an Explorer which someone had cut the top "shark's fin" off, telling him it was a factory prototype. When Eric found out he'd been gypped, he sold the mutilated Explorer and found a better one. The mutilated Explorer can be (partly) seen on the back cover of the Clapton LP "There's One In Every Crowd". Being Clapton, of course, some people have even made replicas of his mutilated Explorer. A Google search will bring them up, together with photos of Eric playing the original.

I've got only 3 that I absolutely love. My 2019 Shell Pink PJ mustang bass. I swear that thing plays itself. I swear I don't even think sometimes and it just plays. My Univox Stereo, a Japanese copy of a Rickenbacker 4001. It's the bass I wanted since I was a kid and I saw Geddy Lee playing one. It plays and sounds absolutely amazing. My last one is a bit of an odd one, my 82' Kramer Duke. Aluminum necked, and built like a bludgeoning hammer. Takes fuzz and distortion like none of my other basses.

Wonderful video guys. Bob I had a 1973 fender Stratocaster diamond in the rough. I had to sell it for rent in 1991 and I still regret to this day, what I wouldn’t give to have that One back. Ramon’s Explorer had me reminiscing about the mid to late 80s bar band that I was in the other guitar player I had a re-issue of an explorer that was definitely not made of korina. I put it on at band practice one evening and I felt like I had my kitchen table around my neck. He definitely look cool playing it though.

My fave guitars in my collection: 1.) 2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard '50's (Heritage Cherry SB w/added Bigsby & Vibramate system): Like Bob, I've always lusted after a '50's Les Paul in Cherry Sunburst. I was finally able to buy one last year (just paid it off a few months ago). 2.) 2003/2004 Gibson SG Platinum (Sunset Orange w/added Bigsby, '57 Classic pickup in the neck, Gibson parts-tulip tuners/poker chip/reflector knobs): My only Gibson for a few years. Plays like a dream after my mods. Many of my guitar player friends have commented on its unique feel (weight, neck, sound). Still one of my pride and joys. 3.) Claptonized Goldleaf Partscaster: most of the parts, including the goldleaf body, were bought on EBay. I also got the EC midboost (which I have in all of my strats, and one of my Tele's) and 3 Gold Lace Sensors. It has a very crispy sound. Very light body, no lacquer (hence the "crispy" sound). 4.) Gibson Songwriter Deluxe: My best acoustic-electric. 5.) 2020 Epiphone Les Paul's (2): Les Paul Special-TV Yellow w/P-90's & Joe Bonamassa Black Beauty Les Paul Custom. I bought both this year. Amazing guitars that signify that Epiphone, like Gibson, are on the road back. Very authentic, high quality feel. Even better price points ($400 for the LP Special, $800 for the Bonamassa Black Beauty LP).

Loved this guy's interesting selection from Ramon, I just recently got rid of a Les Paul because I couldn't get on with the neck, it was a strange beast too it was super quiet unplugged but boy did it sing plugged in sounded amazing but I just didn't get on with it. Traded it in for an SG custom style guitar, I took it pretty much on feel alone, on paper you'd think I'm nuts but I know I got the guitar for me.

Love the single pickup Gibson thinline hollowbodies. Tonally not too thin, not too dark, just right. Had a ‘58 ES-225 I wish I hadn’t sold on. Re. wacky ‘60s Japanese guitars, I’ve got a Teisco Spectrum 3 that’s a blast to play. It’s from the same period as the Spectrum 5 and has the same neck and body as that guitar but with simpler pickups and switching.

Very nice chanel and interesting videos guys! I also bought an LP 58 because of my idol Gary Moore as soon as I got the money together after a few years of work when I was 17, when I was around 15 I played a ES125T in a music store that I fell completely in love with and wanted preferably not let go of but unfortunately I did not have the money because i was in school, now 40 years later I have managed to find one ES125TD 58 340made, favorite no.3 is Gibson LPX which is a really nice versatile easy-to-play source of inspiration with really awesome sound, favo no. 4 is Strat 64 surfgreen favo no.5 is Telecaster 58 blond with 5way switch that i wired bridge 1.hot 2.comp 3.clean 4.clean bridge and neck 5.neck pickup. thats it :)

I never pass up an opportunity to talk about my guitars, so here we go: 5. 2011 Fender Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster - as with all my Jazzmasters she has a Mastery bridge & vibrato. Thinner neck than I usually like but it plays so good I’m not bothered by it. 4. 2015 PRS S2 Custom 24 - McCarty burst, with Duncan Alnico 2 Pro’s. All the quality of a US made PRS at half the price. The best playing guitar I’ve ever owned. 3. 2010 Fender Baja Tele - Butterscotch, replaced the crap plastic pickguard with a proper Bakelite version & installed Gotoh compensated brass saddles. I had been on a search for “the” Tele since 1995 when I got my first one. This beauty ended that search & beat out a much more expensive US made 52 reissue. Paid $600 for it & it’s the best modern production Tele I’ve ever played. 2. 2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard - 1960 spec in Unburst. My most recent find & a stunningly well built instrument. Played every singlecut I could get my hands on for the last 2 years looking for “my” LP-style guitar. This beat them all; PRS, Heritage, Eastman & the other Gibsons I tried. Flawlessly built, can’t find a tool mark or finish boo boo anywhere. 1. 2017 Fender Jazzmaster - American Originals series in sunburst. Mastery system & custom wound pickups by Tim at Sunday Handwound in Georgia. My #1, my baby, out of the 8 Jazzmasters I’ve owned over a 26 year period it’s the best. Chunky neck, light weight & after 4 years of daily playing she’s aging like a fine wine. The kids aren’t getting this one when I die, she’s coming with me in the coffin.

The single pickup ones are slightly more unusual. They also rather cheaper. I much prefer then because pickup is in exactly the right place for me, whereas the necks are too dark and the bridges too bright on the more usual double-pickup variants. Others disagree with me, usually because the mid-positioned pickup gets in the way of their pick...

Top five is quite a hard choice really, but I'll give it a go. I fell in love with Telecasters when I first heard/saw Mick Green with Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, so I have to include one of my Teles. It is special to me as well because like Ramon, I fashioned it. The body is 2 piece Swamp Ash bought from a bloke in Glasgow. Neck from a Squier Affinity which I bought because it has the nicest feel of any Fender neck that I have ever played, and I've played a lot of 'em... Lol Pick ups are DiMarzio True Velvet, and bridge is Wilkinson. Right. Swiftly moving on. My Gretsch P90 Limited Edition. My wife bought it for one of my Birthdays when we we were walking past the shop and she noticed the look of lust in my eyes as I gazed through the window. Then my Epiphone Casino Coupe. Changed the machine heads, bridge, and pick ups to ones that I like. It is an absolute blonde beauty. Now I have to include an acoustic guitar because I cannot live without one. It is my Guild Jumbo Junior. Made in that dreaded place called China...... But... It's still a Guild and looks and plays and sounds incredible. I have to include a bass as well, because I need one to make my recordings, and anyway, I love this one. It is a DeArmond Jet Star and it looks and sounds, and plays great.

Nice! And I've always hated middle pickups, and the switches in the way on strats. I was even considering getting a left handed model and flipping it over to right handed so everything would be out of the way. Maybe that's why Jimi did that...

1. Martin D12-28, sounds like an orchestra. 2. Faith cedar/mahogany slope shoulder dread. Versatile, dream 6 string acoustic. 3. Raimundo spruce/cypress flamenco. Latin, bossa, killer jazz. 4. Gibson Hummingbird. T.V. series, one of 167. The Hummingbird with the rare sound I'd been searching, which drew tears. Oh, has the smell too. 5. The Quirky One. Paul Reisner/Theo Ruiz? (built for Selmer, Paris 1940's-60's) Nickel-plate Duolain resophonic. One of around 400, most went to Africa probably converted to cooking utensils, this one survived. Dark, smoky Delta-blues slide guitar. This one has a 9.5mm bullet hole going clean through the lower bout, with story attached. I call it the Bullet-hole guitar. Ps. 5 is a seriously tight choice!

One of my favorite guitar is unsurprisingly (you know me Ramon) a Godin LGXT.. It is the only guitar that can truly play it all.. When I say all, I even include Sitar because of the synth access haha.. It's not my favorite because I love them all .. I am kind of polygamous difficult to say however if I have to zero down, I would say maybe the Montreal Premiere. LTD.. It's a semi-hollow with a Bigsby and convertible SD pickups.. It also a guitar with lots of possibilities because you can Mitch match pickup configurations, use the whammy bar. It has an amazing sustain, great tuning stability because of the roller saddles and good tuners.. Also, it's semi-hollow design can give it a Jazz round tone as well..

@@TheGuitarShow The Lgxt has a very good convincing acoustic Piezzo. So you can blend an acoustic tone with those of SD pickups (that sound absolutely awesome). Those humbuckers can be splited at the 2nd and 4th position.. As if it wasn't enough t the LGXT also has a Midi synth access so you can imagine the creative possibilities of that guitar are pretty boundless if you get that GR55 Roland guitar synth.. So imagine you can switch from an acoustic tone then blend it with an electric tone, then use only use the humbuckers with gain during the same song .. Also during the same song, later use strings or any kind of padding available in the 1000 patches of the Gr 55.. BTW some of those patches are totally wacky and useless but many of them are inspiring.. godinguitars.com/product/lgxt-black-pearl

As you say I am sure your Navigator/Esp Explorer is pretty damn close to the real thing if not better.. How can you go wrong : Japanese lutherie and tuners, mojo pickups, Korina wood.. Usually unless you are a lousy cook if you put the right ingredients, it should taste good.. (BTW I am an old boring guy who enjoys the Strats and Lespauls and totally assumes it haha :).. For Mark Knopfler jumping from a Strat to a Lespaul must have been easy, since he was one of those Strat players (like Clapton) who hardly if ever used the whammy bar to do his tremolos.. Also, as far as inspiration, I agree no matter what is the name on the headstock, you have to fall in love with it because you simply won't have the enthusiasm..

Though I've commented on it before I absolutely love the color of Bob's '62 strat. A question for two guitar Brits under lockdown: What do you think of Clapton and Van Morrison's anti-lockdown song? When my wife, who is in the medical field, read about it, she proclaimed Clapton an asshole. You two stay well. By the way, when you claim the L.P. to be the "English man's guitar", that's not at all true. Les Paul was of German heritage (a joke, gentleman).

I enjoy hearing you two blokes plunking more each time... I know I'll always be graced by a luvly assortment of music and axes I'd be inclined to seduce a few notes to me dearest and long lost... 💀🙈🙉🙊💎🎵 🚅🚈🚈🚈🚚🚞🚃🚃🚃🚌🛸🛸🛸🛸⚓🏗🚿🌜🌛☔☂ AMPS! Oh, and I know they prolly weigh a ton but ...well maybe an extra friend to assist in shouldering the burden, noble though it be... ...I shall Divulge the extent of me madness ... 4 8" speakers front mounted on plexiglass w/ the rest 3/4" Balsa (maybe1" balsa?) Neodymium magnets, Though I've not the foggiest notion of what they sound like... ...and the amp ? ...hmmm maybe an EF86 in V1 ...a defeatable EQ (7199 or 12AX7) for V2 AND a single ended KT66 class A so no harmonics will be injured 😥 . (maybe two or three in paralell) It'd be cool to have a variable NFB loop (presence) and why not a 6K6/EL84 reverb with a dwell and a mix and and and and some poor enthusiastic lad or lassey to shlepp the lot from gig to shiniiiing GIG ....and if you got this far and you're begining to think "Hey, this guy really is nuts then thanx from the bottom of me peapicking heart ...oh, and on a final note There really are segments during this rant that your outside is in and your inside is... well just .take it easy, Take it EEEEEzzeeee, everybody's got sumpin to hide 'cept for me and my MONKEY
