I have only recently been introduced to this series. I have been watching Bob Ross do painting after painting and listening to his explanations all along the way. So much so that I can hear his voice in my head already! As my budget allows I have been collecting together the stuff I will need and tomorrow I should get my last bit of equipment delivered - the beater grid. At 75 years of age I will be giving this my best shot. Who knows, maybe I can become the next Grandma Moses?

Bob Ross isn't a painter, his art is, performance art. The show was called "The Joy of Painting" not "How to Paint Like A Master". It is performance art at it's core, it's not the finished work but the act of painting itself and with the exception of Bill Alexander no one comes close to being this enjoyable to watch to date.

Exactly. And there are a lot of great artists that make videos on youtube about how to paint. A lot of their paintings are incredible, but often times they don't have the presence, charisma, and zest for life that Bob Ross had and that brings this show to life.

Watch the first season of him painting, not to say his paintings later on aren't good (they are amazing). It's just that the first season was a bit more complex and because of that the paintings were stunning. He simplified it a bit more so that the audience could follow better while he paints putting more emphasis on the techniques. This man could breathe painting.

I never thought anything he ever did was mediocre. He was realistic, his paintings looked good and he did them all in 30 minute segments. He did a lot of different stuff too. Not sure how that is mediocre in the least. Everyone talks about his attitude, which to me, is nice, but it wouldn't matter much if he wasn't a very good artist.

I really can't understand why anyone would want to say anything hateful about a man who continues to make hundreds or thousands of people happy every single day even 20 years after his death. At no point did Bob claim to be a master painter who created never-before-seen miracles, he just wanted to make himself and other people happy. Why hate on that? Seriously, what is so wrong with the world that someone like Bob Ross gets disgusting trolls hating on him when he's not even there to hear it? (Unfortunately I noticed SEVERAL really, like, painfully mean comments about Bob. I just wanted to let you all know. It actually like, made me feel hurt myself. I feel like my reviews sorta cherish his legacy. Anyway, here's the review~) This painting certainly screams "storm's a comin!" to you. The dark, gray sky and the crashing waves make me almost hear the thunder in the distance, I really mean that. The big wave is obviously the highlight of the work and boy does it have power and depth and texture to it. And that island with the palm tree in the corner was a fantastic touch! Especially with the green grass highlights :) I really loved this one and I hope that most of you did too. And I hope you enjoyed my *_Happy Little Review~_*

I used to watch his show when he was on and then again in repeats. His voice was so soothing and I just loved his spirit and how he'd sort of talk to the painting as he was painting it.
