In his entire major league career,Bob Uecker only got 15 home runs, total. However 5 of those were off of Sandy Koufax. When Uecker would come up to the plate,he'd smile and wave "Hiya Sandy!" and Koufax didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

This was the mid 70's. You could very often, if you were polite and respectful to the police, have a friend come and drive you home, with a stern warning only. There really was no zero tolerance policies until the MADD Mothers got into Reagan's ear in the early 80's. The humor of the time reflected the lack of consequences associated with drunk driving.
