A hero is traditionally defined as a person who exhibits extraordinary courage, selflessness, and moral integrity, often putting themselves at risk for the sake of others or a greater cause. This guy was a hero because he was going above and beyond. He was not trained to do this and this was not his career or job in rescuing people. Those that go above and beyond are true heroes.

The window breaking tool is called a center punch. They are available from Harbor Freight. They do not cost much. As for something to cut a fouled seat belt, just get a cheap, small pocket knife. Keep both in your center console.

That shows he's a good man but not a hero. Had he done nothing, he would have been culprit of failure to assist a person in danger. And the fact that it's not his job doesn't matter. Anyone would have to do it, I think that many people would, I would, and those who wouldn't are just cowards, uncaring, or idiots. He is not. That's good. Where were the crew ? THEY should have helped too, instead of letting him carry this woman alone. That's the point.
