Simply because of the position he held in government let’s just be real. Anybody else would’ve been prosecuted and would have been in jail, but because he’s a member of the House of Representatives he got to get away with having sex with an underage girl. He would’ve had to testify under oath, which then he could’ve been prosecuted for. Of course, he would’ve had to prosecute himself, which really would’ve looked bad so he stepped aside to avoid the embarrassment and to save his own skin. Republicans should ask themselves if they want people reading the Bible in the classroom grown men having sex with teenage girls? Shouldn’t they be prosecuted? If that’s the case, why aren’t they pushing for prosecution of one of their own?

I know the press focuses on the sexual improprieties of the cabinet nominees and I suspect that it's in part because those are easier to grok. I also suspect that a lot of voters are more tolerant of those things and less likely to disqualify solely on that basis, since Trump himself is a convicted hush money felon and has been found guilty in a civil case of rape. In the old days, those issues would have been immediately disqualifying, but less so today. Given that there were many voters who didn't even understand tariffs would help drive inflation, I think there are a lot of voters who don't understand the true scope and responsibilities of the Cabinet positions. Granted there have been a lot of political figures who do get nominated to these positions, but many of them have had a lot of administrative/managerial experience as governors, mayors, institutional leaders. And I am hoping the press will show how Trump's picks really do measure up against those job requirements in a way that really makes it clear and memorable (sticky). Do people really understand that lives are at risk or how much the particular government institution affects their lives? If they run a small business, would they entrust the leadership of that business to these candidates? And if people say that running their businesses requires experience, then what do people think of the government? As for Matt Gaetz, yeah, it was clear the report was bad. But given what Gaetz did to Kevin McCarthy to try to shut down the investigation... I suspected that the House Republicans would have used the report to keep Gaetz in line if Gaetz remained in the House. The Senate Republicans... well I hoped they would realize that Gaetz would be willing to use the power of the Justice Department to target them if they crossed his lines.
