The black suit would definitely help explain why his armor was different colors between ESB and ROTJ. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why he had virtually the same ROTJ in the SE-ANH.

Gray Coveralls vs. Lt. Blue coveralls 6. EE-3 Difference. 7. Kill Stripe Colors 8. Jetpack colors 9. Different size dents between the two costumes 10. Girth belt colors 11. Ammo belt pouch numbers and configuration 12. Every piece of armor is painted differently. 13. Shoulder armor and knee armor have different base colors between the versions. 14. Colors and appearance of side belt pouches 15. Differences in the helmet (rangefinder, dental files in rear) besides different paint jobs. 16. Differences in minor details on jet packs (dental files on esb version)

Isn't it already tinted? Pretty sure the helmet can filter light coming in depending on conditions. I may be wrong. But even so I am sure they had a star wars equivalent of masking tape

You can't even go by their weapons either since they all carry some variation of the same gear. He changes the color, loses the Wookie scalps and he really is just some Rando Mando
