All the characters in this show look like they were designed to be made into action figures. It’s part of the haminess of the X-Men TAS/‘97 setting. Characters are ripped, Cyborg dramatically challenges X-Cutioner, and Master Mold is a colossal robot that pulls giant robots out its chest. Along with that, though, are strong character moments and emotional beats. The show has some of the over-the-topness of the Silver Age and the strong characterization of early 2000’s cartoons. To paraphrase a commentator on a different website, X-Men ‘97 is haminess played straight.

Ok, am I the only one who absolutely LOVES Magneto AND his relationship with Rogue in this version of X-Men? From the way he is drawn, to his character, to almost every moment he is on screen, I don't get the hate. It's not like he is treating her with disrespect or grooming her as people accuse him of. I have seen fans support uglier and more toxic fictional couple relationships than these two. And I am sick and tired of seeing the perverted old male characters sexually assaulting/groping young female characters trope for cheap comedy and fanservice (looking at you, anime!). So seeing an old male character who is handsome, fit, AND a gentleman treat a young woman with respect and love is a HUGE breath of fresh air! Heck, I am a huge Rogue fan and even I am jealous of her having not one, but TWO handsome men wanting her!
