Charles then reminded the team that they don't reject people who need help and that goes against the ideal of his dream, at least Rogue noticed that enough to appreciate that somebody is giving her a second chance, right there and then she vowed to keep Charle's ideals to her heart and since then she's been extra hard on herself to keep those ideals, Gambit wasn't rejected from the team like Rogue. He was recommended by Storm of all the members, then Gambit's secrets nearly destroyed the x-men to the point that even Storm was afraid of the x-men being hurt, oh and obviously the Manifold era escaped you, you clearly saw Gambit's true selfishness, this was why when Destiny recruited Rogue and Gambit to rescue Manifold, she only shared specific details to Rogue because even Destiny being blind could see Gambit as mutantkind's worst ending, so she had to put Manifold's destiny in the hands of Rogue, oh and did you catch Avengers Axis? As Red scull stole Charles brain, who did Charles spirit visit to give guidance to, not Cyclopse Storm and definitely not Gambit, but Rogue. He even said that he was sorry to put all that responsibility on her hands, but he only trusted her to be the one to stop Red Scull cold and she kept her promise and did just that!Gambit never promised to even follow the rules of the team, he is only behaving because right now he's around the team and he can't act out straight up, but he will when he see's a weak point! It wasn't Gambit who was then recruited to lead the Avengers unity squad, it was Rogue who was chosen by Wolverine and Captain America facts deal with them!

She sees him being able to touch everything around her but he cannot touch her and that is what she wants more than anything so it's like torture for her (and him of course). Don't forget the first time she was ever touched by someone was when she was captured in genosha and de powered and the touch she experienced was someone sexually abusing her so she is desperate to feel a loving touch (this is in her comic book history). People don't seem to realise there is a whole history and backstory to the characters so to understand what is going on with them properly, you would need to know their history from the comics.

Interestingly enough, both Remi and Rogue thought that they weren't good enough for the other: Remi (at least, in the beginning) believed he was too sinful to deserve Rogue, and Rogue didn't want to bring pain to him through her touch. I definitely agree they did Gambit dirty. But everyone forgets how isolating it is for Rogue to be unable to have physical contact with someone for almost all her life. It'd be like having a sense taken away by threat of death when used, only to find that there is someone out there that can safely give you that sense without hurting them. We have to accept our limitations but physical touch is an incredibly hard thing to avoid unless you have the mental strength to accept being physically alone. It's too bad she gave it up for Grandpa when Gambit was so perfect for her despite their limitations.

Kurt's words come back during those final moments: "Love is best measured in what we can forgive." And dang, if Remi didn't embody that. He was hurt deeply by Rogue - who is going through it herself - and yet, he still chose to sacrifice himself. Which, as many of us know, the deepest form of love is sacrificing ourselves for our neighbors (loved ones, brothers, strangers ,etc.). Yes, Rogue made a terrible mistake. She was blinded by her experiences and believed that physical connection is what matters for love. How many of us can say that we never had similar thoughts? So, she began seeing Magneto more often because of that. Unfortunately, it took both Magneto and Gambit dying for her to realize that none of that matters.
