I just got back from puerto vallarta, weird. I have no idea how to paint yet. so I have been watching a ton of videos about where to start. This seems like a sign of where to try. there sure is a lot of things to learn, but for some reason I am drawn to at least attempting to try. there is something about paint and canvas and brushes and palate knives that make me want to try. I think its because I have been studying guitar for 35 years and especially love jazz improvisation which seems like like the kind of paintings I discovered i like. thank for this starting place. I think its the perfect introduction for me.

First I want to say this guy is great! Secondly I think he should've left the drips on the figure as accidents are the mother of invention, lastly I believe that if the first colour is dry then water and a paper towel will remove the wet coat revealing the bright under colour. The alcohol stripped it back to canvas. Only saying, don't wanna undermine bob blast as I think he is a fantastic teacher and inspirational artist 👌

i think he is awesome, he does alot of different styles and he does these to show others , part of being a teacher, if he only stayed with one style and not trying out alot then it would be the same thing all the time over and over, he knows how to keep and audience coming back

Looking at the figures you’ve done behind you. How did you get the bluish color of the figure ? Oh I just heard you doing a workshop in ocean springs. Yay. I live close to there.
@RobertBurridge2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pamela! Thanks for writing. I use Holbein Artist Acrylic paint right out of the tube - I also mix my own colors a lot too. I am not doing an Ocean Springs Workshop any time soon. I used to go there annually, but things change! I will be at the Florida Watercolor Society convention this September and in Sarasota, FL next February. Best thing to do is check my workshop schedule on my website. Thanks again!

I have a question. How much does the water and alcohol degrade the archival quality of the paint? I noticed that it lifted both the black and the underpainting to which you had added water, and I know once the binders in acrylic paints are spread too thin a painting will flake over time regardless of the application of protective varnishes (according to manufacturers). Could this be compensated for with the addition of airbrush or pouring mediums to increase flow and spread of colors without decreading the binders, and would alcohol have a negative or neutral affect on such medium additions?
@zebedeerotten5336 жыл бұрын
I agree it would break the binders randomly and maybe react or like you say delaminate youd be better using acrylics with mineral spirit before the paint is totally set . or maybe the acrylic reducer itself or cleaner . but alcohol degrades any paintwork even degreasers one you have started its advised to use odourless mineral spirit .this works a lot better than water with sanding as well especially if you change the lid for a spray with wet and dry. id say yes add a flow improver instead of a reducer or as well as ive not tried doing things like this but I airbrush and quite a bit of time with acrylics
