I mean just because a director has worked on good movies doesn't mean he can't make a bad one. And it looks here like the problem is the premise and the writing, neither of which can be helped by a good director...

Writer Tab Murphy has posted an explanation on his facebook page. Apparently, his original script got thrown out and the final script was written by someone else. Director Kirk Wise agreed to the job only because of Tab's script which went unused...yeeeaah. In other words, they had no control, they got screwed over, and their names got attached to the movie only because they're big names.

At least Playmobil was a brand. Bobbleheads are just generic novelty items. Didn't even bother to get likeness rights of an actual sports figure or even ONE licensed cartoon or movie character. Playmobil was clearly meant to cash in off the Lego Movie, this looks to just exist for some reason.

They didn't lose the Lego license so much as they were pissy that no one saw Lego Movie 2, and just didn't renew the license. And they did greenlight a Funko movie before Lego Movie 2 was released, so that's not really the case.

@andrewchung2940
@andrewchung2940 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it probably wasn't even his fault to begin with. Apparently he only agreed to direct because of Tab Murphy's (the writer of Hunchback, Atlantis, and Tarzan) script, which got thrown out when he got on board. So it's really just a Kirk Wise movie in name only...which sadly means his name is associated with it whether likes it or not...

According to the writer himself (Tab Murphy) on Facebook, he tried fixing the movie and his script was completely thrown out and replaced. Kirk originally joined BECAUSE of Tab's script, but once Tab was kicked off and the script was thrown away, Kirk was stuck on the film and was restrained with what he could change in the film. Pretty much everyone was screwed over in production which is why any hint of Disney talent isn't seen in the final film. Their upcoming project, Galaxy Gas, honestly sounds more promising (and Hand Drawn Animation): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKSbiIaIm7d7adk

Universal does distribute GKIDS’ animated films which are usually really great. Films like Tokyo Godfathers and Weathering With You were distributed by Universal through GKIDS, as well as Studio Ghibli’s films. They also distributed Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite in North America through Neon (another indie/arthouse distributor similar to GKIDS).

I've gotten ill twice when watching movies. First was Soul Surfer (I think it was a Red Box), I had to stop shortly into the shark attack scene and after recovering skip ahead to the recovery. Second was the Mad Max Fury Road, where the screen effects emphasizing the titular character suffering from blood loss made me have to get up and walk out (it was well after the show first premiered so there was barely anyone else in the theater) and I ended up laying down in the hall and then visiting the restroom (thankfully not to puke, but I did feel close to it for a bit there).

There was already a Furby movie. it was a pilot for a computer animated series, and it was pretty bad. Humans with faces straight out of Elder Scroll: Oblivion, elbow joints that bent like plastic straws, bloom effects out the wazoo, a villain who walked like he crapped his pants, a song sung by furbies that sounded like Yub Nub mixed with Baba Yetu, and a premise that felt like The Wild Thornberrys if they removed everything even remotely educational.

There were so many movies they threatened to make because the first Lego movie did unexpectedly well. Pez would have been just a stupid movie to make. It's a little thing that keeps candy inside it. There's not even a story to be made out of it. There's no mythos, there's no external media where they already wrestled them into a story. Lego at least had a few cartoon series under their belt, proving there is story to their product. You know, in the same way Transformers and My Little Pony have lore to them to provide multiple movies.

What were they thinking with this movie? Did they learn nothing from the failure that was that piece of crap that was The Emoji Movie or what? Also, they dragged poor Brenda Song into this, didn't they? At least she now voices Anne from Amphibia... By the way, this really looked more like an episode of Brad Ruins Rob's Day than Midnight Screenings.
