If you had a real prize like cancer or something else other than starwars crap that I hate now.... Mandalorian is good for the moment until they make something dumb like "Force heal" that was only a short little thing and didn't bring people back from the dead like that person was.... Some that Anakin could have used to save his mother from the Sandpeople or to Save Padmé but No... This new one is about how Johnson was an ass and we need to fix what he did BY KILLING EVERYTHING THAT MADE STAR WARS BETter than trek but now they are both in the trash pot of dead ideals.... I Hat Hate everything now, happy life day jurks

This new Force Heal is something JJ made up and they put in the Mandalorian so when dumb people like yourself saw it you wouldn't think to much about it. I feel like the first two work as a pretty good continuation, watching them back to back recently. But this one feels soooo jarring. Not even like it’s a follow up to TFA, or a follow up to TLJ. It feels like it was taken from a completely different alternate universe, where all our worst fears with a Disney owned Star Wars were fulfilled.

@jokerhalo Not really, we got great characters arcs from Han and Luke, we got tragic romance between a Jedi and Sith with Rey and Kylo, and we got some coolest lightsaber battles in the history of Star Wars. I just don't buy that an entire trilogy was a wasted opportunity because it didn't end as well as could have. I mean so what, neither did the Godfather trilogy and yet no one looks at the first two films unfavorably.

I'm with Brad when he said there's material in the Expanded Universe that would have made far superior movies then this trilogy. I said that before Force Awakens came out. I remember when the Timothy Zahn "Heir to the Empire" trilogy came out back in the nineties. I always felt that this trilogy was the definitive sequel trilogy. Hell, George Lucas even gave his approval on it! True, we may not have gotten these stories on film, but I always felt that trilogy was a FAR better storyline for Episodes VII, VIII, and IX then what we got.

What's more embarrassing is that the new Lucasfilm regime led by Kennedy and Abrams hate the prequels. And yet they have all the Disney money in the world to make top tier movies and they could only make some of the most uninspiring and unambitious set of films. What's slightly more embarrassing is that there are several half hour animated kids shows that have pushed the boundaries on what a Star Wars movie can be and they are only produced for less than $500,000.

This film was epitomised by the presence of not just one, but TWO cheesy Macguffins. Made even worse by the fact that they only needed the first Macguffin (the dagger) in order to find the second Macguffin (the Wayfinder). Edit: And as someone mentions below, there's also the quest to find a droidsmith. Meaning they had to find one Macguffin (the droidsmith) in order to interpret another Macguffin (the dagger) which would take them to the ultimate Macguffin (the Wayfinder), which would then lead them to Exegol.

Brad's reaction to this trilogy reminds me of The Matrix trilogy. You have the first one: promising,good looking and a lot of fun the second,Which has one great scene and at the end is like "wait,should I care for What's coming next?" And then you have the finale,where you are sit there motionless. All you hear It's exposition, a protagonist is in god mode and you ask yourself "was this necessary?"
@RoboBeastWarrior
@RoboBeastWarrior 4 жыл бұрын
That's actually an interesting comparison. I would argue that the Matrix trilogy started with a lot more promise since the first film is both excellent and ambitious, whereas The Force Awakens is just an average, thinly-disguised remake of A New Hope.
@Kaefer1973
@Kaefer1973 4 жыл бұрын
The Matrix by no means reinvented the wheel, it was pitched as a sorta live action Ghost in the Shell and that what it felt like, but otherwise Force Awakens at least some original ideas found their way in there, so I can't completely support the comparison. The dwindling quality of the sequel part fits of course but they didn't start out in a comparable way.

It made sense back then, Leia was up to her old tricks as anti-Wookie racist (like when she Ignored Chewbaccas deeds in the end of A New Hope), it only became a problem now with this movie since seemingly that part of Leia's personality was retconned.

I'm with Brad on this one. I was always fascinated by Kylo Ren. He's slightly unstable but extremely powerful and rash and unpredictable. You didn't know what he was gonna do. I wanted to like Finn, a stormtrooper defecting... That has mad potential. And once again, they wasted it. Kylo Ren is the only reason I give a shit about this "trilogy" at all. (And I use the word trilogy loosely because this seems more like three separate stories that happen to have the same character in it.)

I swear to god there is a scene where a character goes from holding a hero at gunpoint, to wanting to turn them in for a bounty, to helping them with their goals in less than a minute of film time. The godawful pacing made some scenes unintentionally funny, but it was mostly just bizarre. And thats not even getting into the fetch quest plotting, things that made ABSOLUTELY no sense, and the overwhelming amount of fanservice, which i guess should be expected in the conclusion, but it just made me groan for the most part.

If anyone wants to know why this film, and really this whole trilogy, turned out so bad, just look into all of the leaks and rumors regarding it's troubled production: no planning, extensive re-shoots, disastrous test-screenings, multiple nonsensical cuts, directors being hired and fired on a whim, Lucas being brought in to save it and then getting sidelined; the list goes on. Bottom line, Lucasfilm and Disney provided no leadership, had no consistent creative vision, and they bet the farm on sub-par film-makers who ran things into the ground. Everything was made by committee without any forethought and it shows.

@@Aries2890 From what I can see, Kathleen Kennedy seems like the kind of person that answered the question "Do you have plans for the sequel trilogy?" with "Yes!" and Disney believed her, because they knew that Lucas left scripts behind

On this one in particular, it seems like Disney didn't even care. Opening weekend was basically guaranteed $180M+ and global will probably be at least $1.5B. Disney got what they paid for, and it doesn't even matter if the movie was good, or consistent with anything that came before. It is literally a product to be marketed, and that's it. It's so cynical.

@@randomjunkohyeah1 By all accounts I'm aware of, Rian Johnson had carte blanche from Kathleen Kennedy, who agreed with his creative direction and allowed him to deviate from Abrams' notes. I think he even said once that the shooting script was basically his first written draft.

@@RoboBeastWarrior That's insane. So much of the last jedi feels like a first draft, with bizarre character choices and jokes that may work on paper but don't work in reality. That's exactly the kind of thing a second (or third) draft is supposed to fix.

@@StubbsX88 It's probably too early to tell - there's a huge selection bias towards positive reviews in the first few viewer reviews. Even TLJ's audience score started high. In addition, after Captain Marvel, Rotten Tomatoes changed its rules on audience scores, some argue, to make it harder for audiences to leave negative reviews. There have been rumors of deleting negative reviews under the thinnest suspicions of brigading - but are positive reviews given the same level of scrutiny to screen out shilling? I'm interested in making that comparison again in 1-2 weeks. I suspect that RoS's audience score will plummet.

I'm in the same boat as Jared. I loved the movie. This is actually the first Midnight Screenings I've seen where 2 people had completely opposite opinions. I haven't seen every single Midnight Screenings episode, though. So if it's happened in other episodes, I just haven't watched those. Rey didn't have an arc, but she's still likable. Brad is right that I decided to enjoy it before I watched it, though. I went with my Star Wars Chewbacca shoes on and saw the IMAX 3D screening on Thursday night, fully intending to enjoy it and I did.

Good points made all around. I enjoyed Kylo Ren’s plot, and he’s my favorite character, so that was a big plus for me. Adam Driver was a great asset to this series, and turned in another great performance- I especially liked the contrast between Kylo Ren and Ben Solo, and the Reylo chemistry worked. I also thought the oceanic lightsaber battle was spectacular. But the Rey family twist was a big, big stretch, and I didn’t like her final line. I also agree with Laura that Finn’s plot was such a waste of what could have been a really cool character. I’d say TROS was good, not great.

I honestly don't know how this trilogy is even going to function as a cohesive continuation of the original six. Despite certain inconsistencies and the difference between the pre-digital and post-digital production timeframes, you can watch Episodes 1-6, ignore any and all external additions, and have a relatively smooth ride. I can't imagine transitioning into and through this trilogy won't be a baffling and messy experience.
