I bought a back pod for costo last year but only tried it a few times.So it didnt do anything. I watched this video and decided to give it another try. I used it every day and did a few exercises that were recommended. After one month of use my costochondritis is gone.. After 2 years of pain , this back pod works!!!

I had my first experience with Costochondritis last year during a semester at college. It was honestly really scary at first and I have terrible anxiety, especially when it’s related to my health. I went to the ER and they didn’t do much but said I was able to go home and just rest. They didn’t give me a name for what I was experiencing and it went away after a couple weeks. But now I had a horrible flare up again last month and I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER where they drew blood and looked at my heart. They said everything was fine and all of my blood work was good, but I was still feeling extremely anxious about the whole situation. They told me i have Costochondritis and sent me home. Ever since then I’ve been having really bad flare ups of pain and it’s left me in a depressive state where I can’t bring myself to do anything. Tonight the pain has been pretty horrible, and it’s mainly been happening on my upper left side, which is something that leads me to be more anxious due to where my heart is. I try and tell myself it’s not a heart attack and my heart is fine but with my pain and anxiety it gets so hard not to have a panic attack. If anyone has any suggestions on how to lessen the anxiety over the pain please comment! I don’t have anyone who’s experienced this so if anyone also wants to talk about how they are feeling please comment and we can try to help each other!

I think we're in the same situation. I've been suffering panic attacks when I was in high school. I mean the intense panic attacks, I learned how to cope with it (or simply I learned to ignore it and just continue whatever I'm doing, I still get panic attacks but not as intense just like back in high school.) I'm 31 now but now the attacks does feel like back in high school. I'm suspecting it was the change of weather. Last week I had a bad panic attack in midnight and couldn't stay inside my room, I stayed in the hallway instead cause I usually live alone so in my mind "I don't want anyone find me dead inside my house 10 days later.". I wanted to call emergency cause I thought I was having a lingering heart attack due to shortness of breathe and pain in my both arms. It actually happened after when my little brother had a visitor in my apartment to pick him up so I turned on the air-conditioner, I was suspecting it was the cold weather along with the air-conditioner or maybe I got a bit depressed when younger brother had to leave the apartment for vacation but I doubt that. I went to a hospital on my bicycle to take a blood test but they were asking me why would I want a overall blood test, I told them I'm going back to gym in January so I should know what kind of work-out and diet I should do or what aspect of those stuff should I focus on. I had no money with me at that time, I just inquired for the price of overall blood test. Somehow it made me feel good cause I realized I could ride a bicycle without shortness of breathe meaning I haven't lost my stamina after all these quarantine shits that gets me stuck at home. My blood pressure is actually not that bad even after walking 1.5km I get 127/78. All I know is that the intense panic attacks now is just temporary and have to go with it for now. Try working out if you haven't started yet and stay active cause a good sleep helps a lot. Also regulates food appetite if you're having a problem with big appetite. It also makes me feel less guilty for not taking care of myself.

When I started to develop muscles in my chest I started feeling pain in those area with or without workout. I was always afraid it'll cramp along with my heart but it was just the anxiety.

I've been suffering from costochondritis for years - nearly 12yrs now and I used to suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks too ... My costo is on the left side right above my heart and never anywhere else which always made me think I may be having a heart attack and numerous panic attacks. Tbh overtime I have just become so used to the pain and nothing eventuates into a heart attack so the panic attacks just stopped and I now hold a pillow to my chest while hunched over to help ease some of the pain and just hope it goes away. sometimes just going for a walk when the panic attack is feeling like it's rearing its ugly head used to help too as looking at different sights and sounds can make your mind reset or focus away from the panic brewing. I also was taught by a paramedic (one time I had such a bad panic attack in public and a stranger thought it was an asthma attack so they put their puffer to my mouth and gave me a couple of puffs which made the panic attack so extreme my fingers and toes curled up from the excessive oxygen and steriod and that stranger called me an ambulance) to hold my breath after the next 5 or 6 gasps of air just to try to slow my breathing rate initially, reduce the oxygen intake and then once I had a bit more control, take air in slowly for 3seconds, hold for 3 seconds and breathe out slowly for 3 seconds to get the panic attack under control. The paramedic also said to start doing the same breathing exercise if I thought a panic attack may start to develop and to look up at the clouds to try to find shapes, or to look out a window and count the windows in a surrounding building or to look at any inanimate object /. surroundings and in my head describe the object to myself i.e the couch is made of leather, the wall is painted white, the curtains are blue, today is sunny, rainy etc - to basically random my thoughts up away from the panic inducing thoughts - personally I found that looking at clouds or describing objects /surroundings in my head to myself helped heaps mixed with the breathing exercise as soon as I felt one developing - prevention is better than the cure in this case Overtime - the attacks of costo just stopped worrying me so much as I have had it for years and I just adapted and expect it to happen I guess I'm not sure if my advice will help - I hope it does - just try to random your thoughts up and breathe slower if you are starting to feel one coming on - don't try to have the internal argument in your head of the panicked thoughts - just look around and talk to yourself about what you can see - not what you are thinking 💜

I had this after a flu that turned to bronchitis which led to costochondritis from the intensive coughing fits. It was excruciating pain at times, I missed nearly a month of work and school. My Doctor did tests and said I was fine and didn’t help in any way in terms of fixing my pain. He said it can just go away on its own one day. I ended up getting deep tissue massages and went to chiropractor and after about 2 weeks I started getting a lot better. A month later I was back to work and school. Not gonna lie it was a scary and depressing time for me. I’m glad you guys posted this cause at the time there weren’t many videos on what to do. I hope this brings help to future others. Are you saying that deep tissue massage on your back, that produce pain relief? Or massage of the area of costochondritis pain on the rib cage?

@@thinkingimpaired5663 I would attribute the majority of it getting better to the Chiropractic adjustments, however I did it in conjunction with the deep tissue massages where we would primarily focus on my upper and mid back, as well as my pecs, rib area and shoulders. During this time I also did foam roll my mid back and upper back and laid on a lacrosse ball similarly like they did in this video with the soft ball.

I haven't a clue what caused my costochondritis, but it's one of the many pain points on my body. My 3 herniated discs cause many additional issues. And i have other pain issues. Play the video at .75x speed to get the hang it it at first. I hope it helps a little with back issues. I recently started it myself and it feels good.

I'll try tomorrow because I know my lower back will be a good workout while my right calf might actually spasm with right leg forward. I might be able to do the excercise with left leg forward. However the lumbar area is where I have an L5S1 herniated disc. Indeed nevertheless a great challenge for me to complete.

Not only because of your heart, but also to exclude cancer diseases or problems coming from your stomach. I am curious if your tips will work. Looking forward to trying them out. You guys have helped me with so many problems that were causing me massive anxiety-- earlier this year I had chronic headaches for over a month and feared the worst, but your headache videos completely cured them. I was diagnosed with costo during an ER visit for chest pain last year, and it's flaring up now worse than it did then. Thanks to these videos, I have a backpod (okay, the $40 knockoff version but it's the same thing), and I finally have something I can do when the pain hits. It sure beats feeling helpless and waiting for it to end. Can't thank you guys enough-- your impact on the world is ginormous!

Thank you. My Costochondritis pain has just gone after four months. I thought it began after trying to drag a very large heavy flower pot. It was very scary and disrupted my sleep. I was lucky to have it diagnosed quickly following an ECG, Its great to know that there is something that can help without taking anti inflammatory and other pain killing drugs. Hello Tammi. I’ve recently been diagnosed with it as well my cousin who is a massage therapist says she feels like I have a rib out of place up on the top but she cannot be for certain. Do you use the back pod and if so does it help you? My pain started my upper thoracic spine area and then it moved to my chest. I’ll often feel tightness around my collarbone area as well and it just feels like my spine is bruised on the inside if that makes sense. Have you done anything to fix the rib and if so was it beneficial?

@@stephaniegutierrez6222 I have gone to physical therapy, but they couldn't get it back in place, and I went to a chiropractor who also could not get it fully back in place. I have a ball that vibrates that I use instead of the back pod, it does help release my back and chest. I also have a back stretcher, which helps. It does flare up when I have been sitting for too long at work.

About 30 years ago I suddenly had costochondritis out of nowhere. The doctor who told me said Mike Tyson also had it. Super helpful since I’d never gotten punched in the chest. He didn’t suggest any treatment, just said it might get better or you might have it for the rest of your life. I had it for about a year, it went away and never came back. Thank God! I always wondered if it was a residual effect from a major car accident I’d had 20 years prior? Yeah 20+30 years means I’m pretty old!

Thank you for giving some real relief options. My 19 year old daughter has this. She woke up this morning with a flare- up and she was crying, grabbing her chest saying that she thinks she's having an anxiety attack. But I knew immediately what it was. Her doctor prescribed Meloxicam when the ER discovered that she had costochondritis. So I gave her that, and put I ice pack on her chest. But when I was rubbing her back, that seemed to help her flare- up calm down. It's quite scary. But I am grateful for your information. I will have her do those excercises today and I will work on getting her that tool.

I’ve gone into the ER three times at three different hospitals and two different doctors and they all said the same thing and just prescribed me medication. I’ve asked so many times “what can i do to prevent this or is there any minor surgeries i could have to fix it permanently?” And they’d always say “no, just heavy medication. You’ll deal with this for the rest of your life” My case: -started when i was 17 (I’m 20 now) after getting the flu. -it flares up every other month -starts around 1am lasts until 5am and then i feel drained/sore for the rest of the day. -symptoms: nausea, shortness of breathe, sharp/heavy pain on my sternum, left rib, breast bone and back. -the medication I’ve been prescribed.. Ibuprofen 800mg, Naproxen 375mg , Ketorolac 10mg, -my home remedies to ease the pain: Heating pad, hot chamomile or oregano tea, Warm baths, CBD cream or tiger balm.

I am so happy that you have posted this video. It is certainly very frightening to have this chest pain and have the ER folks tell you your aren't having a heart attack and look at you for wasting their time. I got my heart totally checked out and the cardiologist was surprised my heart was as healthy as it was considering my size. Still, nothing they could do and my PCP said it would just go away. I found that when my back was really tense. (I have scoliosis, on my vertebrae are slightly twisted between my shoulder blades.) The chest pain was really bad. If I was able to release the tension in my back, the chest pain would go away. So I am happy that it seems I stumbled on part of the exercises. I did also notice that when I was trying to exercise my arms, the pain would come, so I haven't really exercised my arms. Now I feel confident I can get back to working on my flabby arms. I am definitely going to research this more and start on the exercises. Thank you so much!

I had a similar experience, C Harvey. Went into the emergency room in excruciating pain and the terrible fear that I was having a heart attack. After the chest Xray and EKG showed my heart was fine, they acted like I was a wimp and was wasting their time. No suggestion that it was costochondritis, nor a referral for PT. No painkillers for the horrific pain. I don't think they realize how incredibly painful it is! I had a tubal pregnancy burst once and it was up there at that level of pain! We're not being wimps! Aleve or analgesic patches just don't cut it. And, in the ER, they make you lie down flat which makes it even worse and harder to breath, much less talk and answer their gazillion questions. While I was lying there, alone, waiting to be released, I actually got a call on my cellphone asking for my frikkin' co-payment! Luckily, after hearing my symptoms, a friend told me about her costochondritis and directed me to this really helpful KZbin video. Thanks Bob & Brad!!

I can’t believe this!! You are both amazing. Every time you post I find some exercise to add to my routine or other info to help. I never heard of this before but like Brad I was sent to the hospital (I was mowing too!!) and they even went in to catheterize me and said oops your heart is great! The exercises at 12:19 gave me immediate relief, atho I am not ready to try the ones lying down yet. I went to an Ortho today because I also have minor scoliosis along with this rib/chest pain. I was very scared to tell the doctor I have tightness/pain in my chest and difficulties breathing thinking he would send me for a PCR test. After research I eventually saw this video and it has been eye opening, I've had these issues for years.

The first time I had costochondritis, I was terrified that I was having a heart attack. I was cleared by a cardiologist. My flare ups got much worse when I was receiving Aimovig injections (Aimovig can cause terrible muscle spasms like your core is being crushed). The costochondritis at that point took my breath away. I do have it on both sides though it's always worse on the left side. My sister-in-law also has flare ups of it and her doctor injected the area with something. That sounds awful to me. What I do is use a heating pad, take ibuprofen, hold a pillow to my chest if I have to cough or sneeze during flares. I will now add what you've shown here. I regret not seeing a PT years ago when my nerve damage pain (an adhesion is trapping nerves) and my Fibromyalgia became unbearable. I was petrified of anyone possibly applying pressure to areas that hurt terribly. This was a mistake. Years of Fibro and now my upper trapezius muscles are like rocks. The degree of their spasms/cramping triggers mind blowing migraines with aura and nausea. When we get through COVID, I will go to a PT. In the meantime, please know that movements you've shown have helped me. I saved your videos that pertain to my conditions and I revisit them. The first time that I felt a release from the agony of my right upper trapezius muscle by doing what you've shown, I teared up. I live with chronic debilitating pain from the nerve damage, the migraines and my Fibro. Your videos gave me actual relief without the need for ibuprofen or a muscle relaxing medication. I think that, unless you live with 24/7/365 pain, you can't imagine what a release from any of that pain does for you physically and emotionally. Please keep making videos. When my nerve damage pain and Fibro first began, a pain management specialist told me he could only fully stop my pain by putting me in a medically induced coma. Beyond the poor bedside manner, I felt hopeless that I might never feel less pain. I have tried new classes of meds as they received FDA approval but, controlling pain from damaged/trapped nerves and the fully body pain of Fibro is illusive. You two, in a few short months, have shown me options that help, non-surgical, non-pharmacological options. To say thank you feels insufficient but, I do thank you.

I got a mammogram and ultrasound because my pain radiated from my left breast to under my armpit and my back. Of course as a female I was worried it was something more serious after googling causes of costo. Luckily everything was normal so now I’m working with a chiropractor and massage therapist.

@@bingcherry2008 a week ago I received an injection with kenalog and toradol. This helped so much! Still working with my massage therapist and chiropractor but I wish I’d known about the injection sooner since I’ve had the pain since May. I hope you get better soon!!!

Thanks AGAIN Bob and Brad.Yes it's really anxiety generating when you don't know what it is. For the chest side stretching, I do it with half my bum on the chair alternatively , the other "in the air", it stretches the ribs even more . ( it's a Feldenkrais exercise). Works great for me.

The 1st time i had this 25 yrs ago i thought i was having a heart attack! as i was struggling to breath as my whole chest was cramping and i struggled to breath.The only other time 15 yrs later i knew that a strong anti inflammatory would sort it out but AnE refused to give me any! until id spent a day having multi heart attack tests. I now have an injection weekly for Rheumatoid Arthritis ! and do a lot of BnB exercises!

I have a lot of chest pain after thoracic laminectomy to remove a spinal tumor. When you showed the pain actually coming from the spine I got chills. That makes sense. I have endless pain. Unfortunately the roller hurts to use. Any advice for thoracic post-laminectomy pain? I’m 2 years out.

I’m traveling right now but good thing I brought my back pod with me! I’ve had this for less than 2 years now and I’ve been able to normally relieve my costochondritis pain right away. However tonight, my flare up was so bad and I’ve been struggling for 4hrs now trying to relieve my pain that my back is now sore from the back pod and back ball. (I’ve been focusing too much on my right side) I turned to watching B&B videos again and followed the steps on here! I placed the back pod on the 6 positions on both left and right side (my pain is on my ride side), and then followed it up with the side stretches with deep breaths. Wow! I have pain around the bottom of my ribs right above the stomach for at least 5 years, painful when I turn twist and lift left hand above head. It got worse from pt when I was strengthening my upper back. I foam rolled my back ribs with a foam ball about the size of a tennis ball. It helped so far hopefully I've found a cure.

Omg i was diagnosed with this in May. I was at work and thought I was having a heart attack. It’s on my right side though. The doctor told me it’s brought on by stress. But I believe it’s now causing pain in/behind my breast.

Yes stress seems to flare it sometimes but i think so does sugar and dairy. At least for me.

I've found only ibuprofen or naproxen helps. Stabbing pains in different spots in my chest, can't move when it's bad. (I've had and echocardiogram in the past few years, so I don't figure it's my heart.) I think sometimes it's triggered by a hot shower, sometimes by a bad sleep position. I don't know, but it's horrible. Thankfully it isn't all the time.

I get an intense stabbing pain in my chest that seams to be related to movements that I am making. Sometimes it is so intense it can put me on my knees. It doesn't last long, I always assume it is something getting pinched in my rib cage. I have Pectus Excavatum so I assume it may be related to that.

@@lucke2024 I have not, I also assume costochondritis. My pain is where my bottom one of two ribs attach to my deformed sternum on my right side. Often the pain is mild but sometimes if I am doing something with unusual movement it seems something gets pinched and the pain is through the roof. That area will also be tender to the touch when it is acting up. It worried me at first, but I have lived with it long enough now that it is just one of those things.

I’ve been feeling that since last year I guess! It comes and goes! Sometimes the pain wakes me up! It is so strange! But I did realize it shows up more when I’m more stressed out or too anxious! I had a vitamin D defiency and taking vitamin d supplements made my costo complictely go away after 4-5 years of dealing with. I tried everything, and though stretches etc. helped it would still flare up. Haven't had any problems since starting vitamin d supplements. My doctor was surprised how much it helped and he said it could be because of the impact that vitamin d has on bones and joints and also that it can act as a steroid and being deficient caused/made my costo worse.

I have vitamin D deficiency as well. After a lot of research, i believe this May be my cure. I’ve finally gotten some great sleep after my first dose of vitamin D and Naproxen. I pray that this is a sign of relief and the light at the end of the tunnel. I take one vitamin D pill a week, so I’ll come back after a month to give an update

@@crazyexperiments5804 I actually have experienced A L O T of relief. I would say that the correct use of the backpod i found immediate relief. I honestly wish I started there first. I also go to a chiropractor. My anxiety about the whole thing is little to none, and when I do have an itsy bitsy flare up it’s nothing that last for even 30 mins. Something that had me in the ER is now behind me and not even a 2nd thought.

Hey guys, bizzare enough I had mine come on after taking a 💉.. I’ve been into ER countless times an every time all they do is a full check of my bloods, a ECG, blood pressure, X - ray and send me away saying everything is fine. It left me so anxious for months and months as no one had any idea, after doing my own research I found that what I have is most likely Costo, I’m still not 100% sure yet and am going to see a cardiologist this year hopefully but the symptoms are so similar to what is discussed in the video. It comes on and off, I have days where I go surfing for hours and am absolutely fine and days where I could be at work changing a light and it kicks in so painful! Sometimes it’s a sharp pinch, but mostly a ache, as if someone was pushing against my chest internally. If anyone would like to talk about this or wants a friend that’s in the same boat please feel free to reach out to me, I would really love to talk, It would help me to :)

I had it for 1 year. How do you stop the flare ups? Praying your flare up goes away. I got mine from my chiropractor cracking my back several times. It was dull. I made it worse because I had no idea what it was by lifting heavy groceries, scooter, etc. Also, I have 3 herniated discs and ACL Edema. How long does costochondritis usually last or how long does it take to go away?

I've had Costochondritis for almost 3 years. I noticed it when I was training for a Half marathon. I would get a sharp pain in the center of my chest. Of course I went to my cardiologist and a pulmonologist and all was fine. I just started to use the Back Pod and got instant relief but it has only been 3 weeks and still have slight pain. I need to do the stretches into my routine. I want to know if anyone else had this problem with running?

Going to try this. My pain is on my l/s ribs, lat, oblique. Seen many docs and still has not been diagnosed. Pt has been doing dry needling which has helped some. One wise nurse told me it seems like constacondritous, but in the upper back instead of chest. That's the best diagnosis I've had so far. Will try the pod to loosen the intercostals. We shall see. You gents are fun to watch. :)

Hey everyone, I was at this stage too in my 4th semester of college after a strain in my upper back but my pain was so bad that even breathing was painful at one point. Then a therapist told me to do yoga , foam rolling, light weight training and most importantly to drink Turmeric milk with Cinnamon and black pepper. And boy all these things worked like wonder .. It's not fully healed but it's still a lot better and manageable now .

You guys are great I don't know what I'd do without you your knowledge is brilliant just one thing though when you're a big heavy set guy like I am with old muscles it can be hard to get on the floor and do those exercises are using electronic massage plus stretching, could you please add some standing up and sitting exercises?

I totally agree, Android 890, the thing that originally caused my costochondritis was getting down onto and up off of the floor multiple times when I painted my lower kitchen cabinets. Recently reactivated it when on the floor putting together a bed frame. It just occurred to me - maybe this exercise could be done standing against the wall, rather than laying on the floor? I'll try it and see...

Do you like not want to put the backpod on the thoracic spine? In the pictures showed in the backpod user guide like tells us to put the backpod on the spine. Is that like not a good thing?I am not 100% cured from Costo as well, even with using the backpod. I read the manual and look at multiple videos over and over to see if I did something wrong. I’ve been suffering from upper back cramps and chest pain, and also my back really aching with slight short leaning, like when doing the dishes or ironing. I thought it was a side effect of thoracic surgery (t9-10 discectomy) but now I think it’s simply this. I’ve been terrified of needing more surgery, surgeon wanted to remove two vertebra and put a metal pole in my back, I refused as I’m walking still and the surgery has a significant risk of paralysis. I’m not even 50 yet. This makes so much sense for my pain. I cramp easily on the floor so I’ll start trying this on a wall and see if I can get to a stage where I can get on the floor.

@@oneluv201 Bob and Brad showed how to press on the spot in this video. If you press on a spot and hit the ceiling, that's not heart. In other words, heart pain is under the ribs. But when in any doubt, go to the ER.

Try myofascial release done by a pro, or cold laser therapy. You should also strengthen your core muscles to take the strain of your upper body muscle group. There are also stem cell injections i heard can work.

I have a odd question, laying on your stomach and chest alot, can that cause like a pressure pain? I have had ekg's, stress test, echo, CT scan of my arteries, blood work and its all clear. Still get the pressure. Only thing I can tell is laying on my chest and stomach is causing it.

I have the same problem 😓 I helped my boyfriend pick up a heavy car seat in his garage the next day I felt like I was gasping for air I thought I was dying. If I do anything that involves heavy lifting, pushing or pulling it makes my sternum area swell up. I had it so bad I was using my dad's inhaler thinking I had phlegm in my lungs. The doctors put me on naproxen but I couldn't take it anymore because I to many side effects so they put me on methylprednisolone it helped but I still have the Costochondritis 😐 it's been a month since it happened. I had Costochondritis before when I was a teenager but after picking that car seat up it came back .

@@taylorwheatley2395 yeah it's called tietze syndrome when there's swelling. Basically the same, just with the swelling. Tietze is apparabtly something 40- ppl get. And costo is more seen with 40+. I have no clue why. It's what I read online. I hate this condition. Sorry you're suffering as well. It's like it hides in the shadows and can come out at any moment. It sucks

Ive been in ER 2 times because of this. After doing the ball excersice in my back, my chest relaxed and then i could massage it and realize it was and inflamation. Before this i couldt tell, it was only a sharp pain.

The instructions for the Backpod say that you can sit on a sofa or chair and put the Backpod behind your back, just leaning back against it. The pressure is not as great as it would be lying on the floor, but still is supposed to produce a stretch.

Mine feels like a labor contraction that builds. THIS must be what I have. Exact spot and it hurts!!!!! And I feel bruised for days sometimes. I have a compression burst fracture in my L1. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Tyvm

When I had it, I asked the ER doctor what causes this? He responded sometimes lifting heavy things up and away from your body. It pulls the rib away from the cartilage that attaches the rib to the sternum. Every time I have had this, that was the cause. Yes, and it feels like a heart attack. Very painful.

I'm currently suffering so bad right now with chest pain in center and across top of chest both sides. ER said heart is fine. I told them it feels like it's coming from my spine....they do nothing and even told me they can't see that causing my pain. And I have multilevel spondylosis in my thoracic that hurts all the time. 😭
