It’s a great video but I think it would be more efficient if you showed someone who actually needed it. I’m an incomplete paraplegicAnd I see this a lot when demonstrating adaptive equipment. You can only show so much from somebody who doesn’t need it at all. Even the way you going to demonstrate weight-bearing on the walker versus not weight-bearing is going to be completely different.

Idk as someone who was healthy and got into a car accident and became non weight bearing and now easing into partial weight bearing. This was exactly how my pt told me to do it and I don't think it's any different from how they used it versus how I use it.
@doriantaylor5243
@doriantaylor5243 Жыл бұрын
@@LilBit_Everything I don’t know what it is that makes you unable to weight bear but I am not unhealthy I just can’t walk. That being said you were in a physical therapist office correct? Therefore you had someone physically showing you how to do it. I still think it would be more efficient if they showed people who actually needed it. They may be physical therapist but the fact is someone who uses a mobility device does it hours a day 365 days a week. They are going to be able to show you much better than someone who has not had that experience. 11 years in the game

@@doriantaylor5243 I never said you were unhealthy. I was referring to myself because I feel broken now. I was in a car accident. Someone blew through a stop sign in front of me and I hit them going 55 tried to avoid them and rolled into a ditch. I was in the hospital for a week and then in rehab for 2 more weeks. Personally the way the original pt guy I saw while in the hospital explained it way better and used your movements and where you out weight to help move you versus the girls I saw in rehab. Nothing against them personally. They were still very knowledgeable. I understand what you're saying about learning tips and tricks but that's all going to come down to personal preference to some degree as well as maybe potentially not engaging in what is consider safe or stable. Plenty I've done to simplify that none of my PT people would recommend doing because it isn't considered safe but it makes my day less exhausting and tiring to do it that way.

@@LilBit_Everything You just explained why these videos are not efficient. I spent six weeks in rehab and two weeks rolling around with other people in wheelchairs taught memore than I could ever know. Good luck on your journey. You may be feel broken now but you’re not. There is no difference between what you’re going through and a broken arm. Your life has changed now no doubt but you’re still a whole person. I became a paraplegic from a really tragic violent incident. Took me years to feel this way I hope one day you get there as well

Great video. I had 3D Lapiplasty bunion surgery. The hospital sent me home with a walker due to non bearing weight on affected foot. My arms were exhausted after using. Little did I know the walker was too tall for me. I adjusted,as per the video, and what a difference it made. I had to adjust it down three notches! Bob and Brad, as always, great info. Thank you.

The problem is none of these videos have people with actual fractures and cam boots on demonstrating the correct way to use a walker or crutch, it looks too easy here you can’t just slide the good leg forward because of the cam boot (rocker sole heel to toe movement) and the weak injured leg/ankle. You have to sort partial hop the good leg. I wish there was a video with actual injured person using cam boot teaching how to use a walker properly I’m finding it extremely frustrating recovering in a boot from my foot and ankle injuries due to mostly misleading information and videos that don’t represent things accurately

I broke my foot and had surgery. First I tried using a walker as I'm dangerous on crutches. By the time I'd hopped down my hallway with the walker I was absolutely exhausted it took so much effort. I ended up getting a kneelie walker

I got exhausted using walker or cruthes for anything more than a few feet. So a knee rest scooter enabeled me to do so much more when non weight bearing. Once I was weight bearing as tolerated,, I used walker or crutches. Also, my non wheeled walker was much more stable when the front two legs were set a notch taller than the back 2 legs. It was not so prone to tipping forward. ( I had left ankle surgery)

Rollators are great! I've been using them for quite some time and find them invaluable. No standing in lines, use walker as shopping cart and save 50 cents on a cart. I have a strong upper body because I exercise, which also helps with my legs and I practice the balance techniques I've watched on your channel. Caution against using seat as a wheelchair. Keep up the good work!

I just found you guys and I recently at the tender age of 62 fell from a ladder and got a plateau tibia fracture. The Ortho surgeon said I didn't need surgery, but they put me in a brace and told me I am not to put any weight on the leg for 3 months. I have a walker with wheels on the front and they showed me a little at the hospital I stayed at for 3 days. The bad thing is I can not climb or go down steps without falling. It's just too hard. I finally got a wheel chair and used it once for a doctor's appointment, but I had to use the walker to go down one step by hopping on one leg and then walking to the wheel chair a couple steps outside . I had to get off the porch. It has one small step. God I hate using a walker. I used to actually walk a lot and I miss it. Now my life consists of going from the bedroom to the bathroom to the kitchen with the walker and returning. Can't wait to be able to put some weight on this leg and for it to heal, but the doctor said it will be several months before I can walk without any help. Thanks for the excellent video guys. Regards from South Central Indiana. USA.. Tim..

I did not think I’d ever find my way back to this! I broke my ankle on both sides and in my fibula. Also displaced it in 2 places. I was really weak and was going back to PT to get my strength back. I never made it needless to say. I can’t hop on the one leg and am thinking I might have to rough it until I can become weight bearing. I have walker with wheels and a rollator for later. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Susan Mundy in hindsight, if I hadn’t fallen as soon as I left the ER, if I had some help learning how to use the crutches, and didn’t have to immediately go upstairs and up hills in the grass to get to my parents’ house, I think I could’ve used crutches. But after that second fall, I was scared. Have you considered a knee scooter? That ultimately ended up being my main mode of transportation until I could bear some weight. I still used the walker for things like getting down and up off the toilet, getting in and out of the shower, getting in and out of the house, etc.It took me a little time to get used to it, making tight corners in three point turns. My parents house was built in the 70s, and the doors are a lot more narrow, and the hallway is pretty tight. So it was a while before I was really comfortable with it.

ThT happened with my crutches. I had used them in high school with no problem. But I didn’t try it out in the ER. The guy gave me verbal directions, and then stopped themselves and said that they told me the wrong stuff. I was supposed to do the opposite of what he said. I had trouble because my cast was too high, and I couldn’t bend my leg behind me. I was trying to hold it in front of me. That’s why I feel when I got home from the ER. We got my walker from Walmart, and it was a miracle. But there was a lag time until the physical therapist came and help me. And there was a lag time before I saw the physical therapist after I had partial weight bearing status. Basically, I had my walker too low for partiss asl weight bearing until I was almost done with it.
