The year was 1973 and I used to play this for my little girl and she would put her head on shoulder at age 3 and when he would say daddy what if I stopped loving you she would look at me and say "no way". She passed away a few years back but this song kindles a memory that brings a smile to my face and solidifies a daughter and father love that never ends.

I know this is a long time from my typing to you maybe seeing it(I hope you do) but I'm sitting in at New Orleans Airport waiting on my little one to be back with me. Your comment kent allot, your comment meant more than that, it meant a life. I belive you'll see her again, and she'll be as little as you remember and as you spend time, like our children are will grow. But not so big you can't hug them. Have a blessed day.

This song gets me every time I hear it. It was just a cute song until I lost my dad a couple years ago. He used to play this song ALL the time when I was a kid in the late 70's. I love my mom, but we've never been on the same 'wavelength" as it was with my dad, I miss him every day.

I made a recording of myself and my kindergarten aged son singing this song years ago. I played it for his teacher at that time after school. During the song, another teacher walked into the room, heard the song, and told me that her brother in law was a country singer, who also sang the song. His name? Bobby Bare.

John, I met Bobby and his son (Bobby Jr.) 2 yrs ago in Nashville. I got his autograph, a nice bear hug, and a picture with him. That is a great song.

Heard this for the first time this past Father's Day while Mom and I were going home from church. My dad passed away just two months before then. Thing is, the grass did stop growing, the sun stopped shining, and the wind stopped blowing that day.

I have never been much of a country fan...But my Granny & Papa had this record and I used to listen to it when I was little every time I stayed over with them. I lost my Papa in 2016 and my Granny in 2019. This song will always bring fond childhood memories of them.

My dad was the greatest man who ever lived! and my daughter is the most wonderful friend I'll surely ever know. just to hear her voice makes my world right, no matter the man I've been! I hope and pray I never feel the loss you share, and my heart is filled wiht that same "father-daughter" LOVE. Nothing, NO NOTHING, brings a smile to my face, like the sound of my daughter's voice! I love you, Sugarfoot!

I've loved this song ever since the '70s when it was released but have never seen the video. Seeing this video adds a whole new dimension to this song. It's so genuine. I also have a new appreciation for Shel Silverstein as I've just discovered this is the same author of the children's literature. I never realized he wrote this and some other great songs as well.

@KicknAssnPlacinBlame Thank you for your info correcting me. I posted this, but over 30 years ago I met Bobby singing at Peterborough UK ,I was hooked on his voice, at that time I also subscribed to " Country Music People" It was in this magazine they printed that Bobby Bare's son had died of a respiritory disease not long after his album " Singing in the kitchen was released over here in the UK. On You Tube I see it was his daughter Shannon that died. so sorry for adding the wrong info.Sorry.
