I woke up this morning thinking about the chorus to Common's song the Light and had to find out what song it was sampled from. I am surprised and excited to find it is Open Your Eyes by Bobby Caldwell. I would have sworn this was a black man singing. He has so much soul. I will be looking up other songs from him. Love this one!!

Had no clue about this song until J Dilla sampled it for Common's 'The Light'. Why this song wasn't a bigger hit in 1980 makes absolutely no sense to me. The original is a far greater song than the Rap version. Such a beautiful composition, well done Bobby.
