In this video we have a look at a legendary hedgehog plan played by Bobby Fischer. His exhibition game against Ulf Andersson in 1970 is and was a model game for a very interesting plan in hedgehog type positions.
We put this plan in historical context in the video and see some examples of this plan in action.

Great video! Super instructive and nice to see how Fischer probably pulled the idea out of the ever-creative Morphy

In 1970, Fischer also played 1.b3 against Tukmakov (Buenos Aires), Filip and Mecking (Interzonal, Palma de Mallorca), scoring an impressive 3/3. However, he didn't use the Kh1/Rg1/g4 approach in any of those games.

Interesting video. I've always considered the Hedgehog quite difficult to play against, but purely defensive opening, because that's the way players at my level play it. Who would have known that this could be an attacking opening? Morphy game mate in five: 1.Rxg2+ Kxg2 2.Rg8+ (if 3.Qg7 Rxg7+) 4.Kf2 Qh2+ 5.Kf3 Bg4#

During the Sigeman tm last year I asked Ulf if his game with Fischer made him interested in the Hedgehog. But he said he was inspired by some other strong players playing it around that time. I don't remember all the names he mentioned but I think Kortchnoi was one of them. The Black Lion (or kitty...) might have been inspired by it. But the pawn on e5 instead of Ne5 is probably why it's not so dangerous. Putting the bishop on c7 was an interesting development/refinement - maybe that should be named after Jussupow? Btw, this year's Sigeman tm has just started - looks like Erigiasi may be having his breakthrough to the 2700 club, he's leading with 2/2, despite being 2nd lowest rated of the eight players.

Actually the first one to implement this idea was Nievergelt. Check the game Nievergelt-Keres to see it. Fischer observed this curious maneouver in a tournament he played and as a well-know theorician he took notes of it.
