Excellent! I will still be in time for the ballet! (upon defeating Ossip Bernstein in the famous 29 move exhibition game played in Moscow in 1914, and before setting off to the Bolshoi Theatre by horse-drawn carriage) Jose Capablanca World champion 1921-1927 1888 - 1942

Oh, what a devastation! I tried to imagine how did Andersson feel after such a humiliation, especially when it is sponsored by his homeland newspaper and probably analyzed in a greater detail than his common everyday games. Dear Mr. King, I would like to thank you for all of your tremendous work you do for us chess fans. It is entertaining to watch your joy, I guess you love chess deeply and you were lucky with the choice of own profession. I bet you would be a great teacher as well! For us, it is a great joy to watch you professional insightful opinions!

Funny thing is, he was instead so inspired by this loss to do his own deep dive into the Hedgehog, which he used to beat Karpov years later.

Great game and commentary as usual Mr. King. This is a demonstration of superb strategical and positional play from Fischer. Very instructive. Much better than "Ah, you forgot your 17th book move and now you can resign". :)

Bobby Fischer made winning look so simple. That's why I still regard him as the best ever. Most of today's games seem to dwindle down to King and Pawn endgames, perhaps with a bishop vs. knight, and the player with the better end game knowledge ends up winning. Fischer could crush you with all of the pieces still on the board.
@Krakatit30
@Krakatit30 5 жыл бұрын
That's because I really think it's much more difficult nowadays to crush a GM or a super GM with so many pieces still on board like Fischer did in this game. Sure it happens from time to time but I think generally the GM's of today, or somebody like Magnus Carlsen would not fall for this so easily. I don't question Fischer's genius, he would have probably adapted and play endgames brilliantly himself. But my point is that today the opposition that for instance WC Magnus Carlsen is facing is considerably more stronger than what Fischer was facing. So I don't fully agree with Fischer being the best ever. Certainly he's up there and if he were to be born today, benefit from all the accumulated knowledge and study with the engines, maybe he could have been. But I guess we will never know for sure.

This is truly impressive. Andersson was a great strategist himself, but found himself lost without a clear explanation... Like he was playing against God. This happens when you play people like Fischer, Capablanca or Carlsen.

Actually GM King, there is a Fischer game from a Najdorf Sicilian in which Fischer as black adopted a virtually identical plan: ... Kh8, ... Rg8, ... g5, ... g4, etc. against a similar pawn phalanx.

What a crushing win! If you had to find Black's mistake in this game (if there was one), what would it be? My guess is 11 ...f6. GM Ben Finegold is well-known for telling people never to play this!

I beg to differ, as Fischer's road to the 1972 match is an iconic part of modern chess history, and therefore has its place on the channel. That being said, I don't believe many members of the community have studied or even gone through these games before, so I'm glad to see them being covered ! Moreover, most players can't memorize that many games and Daniel's commentary is pretty unique, so there will always be something to take away from the videos, be it the pleasure of re-discovering great games or the novelty of the commentary. Let's keep enjoying this beautiful game together :)
