I was fifteen years old when I watched the 1972 Canada USSR summit series. My friends and I we’re shocked seeing how good the Russians were and what a totally different style of hockey they played. We were completely impressed by the whole Russian squad but particularly Valeri Kharlamov.

These hockey players did way more to promote peace and friendship than all those high powered politicians and plutocrats

Bobby is looking old in this video. He won't be with us forever. Blackhawks fans will always have our memories of him. There are only a few players who brought excitement to the ice the way Bobby Hull did. Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Jaromir Jagr come to mind. But none of them had the personal magnetism that Bobby Hull did. He lit up the room and made you feel like you were special. He genuinely loved hockey fans. Kharlamov was great. It was a terrible loss to hockey when he died.

I, too, think that Kharlamov was the best of the best on the old Soviet teams. What teamwork, I thought they communicated via mental telepathy, the players and the puck were in constant motion. Some years ago, I was looking at eBay and found a Kharlamov jersey for sale, his number 17 and his name in Cyrillic letters and I bought it. The one surprising thing I found, when I wore it at work one day when we could wear a jersey of our favorite team, was that nobody anymore seems to remember what the CCCP (SSSR in Cyrillic) stood for. Just as well, politics and sports aren't a good mix, and I prefer just to remember the good times when the Soviet teams were a world and Olympic powerhouse.

One of the GOAT! Got to see him play many times at the old stadium. Awesome! Really sickening that those commiie bastards took out Kharlamov.

Two corrections. It's Lenin, not Stalin. It's not a communist party booklet, it's "KOMSOMOL"(young communists) booklet
