@AtariMaxiToriyama And, to clarify, ALL singing of all styles and ranges has most of the resonance in your head. There is no substantial chest resonance, as shown by years of scientific study of the human voice. All strong resonance for everything in the human voice is in the vocal tract.

I still can't stand that "Don't Worry Be Happy" song to this day but I would readily acknowledge that McFerrin has impressive vocalizing talent. I enjoyed this tutorial.

this is actually a very beneficial set of exercises for the somewhat experienced singer...particularly the bit about committing to improvise for 10 minutes and progressively more. This will definitely train the ear and the voice to work together to create enjoyable music...though I doubt anyone will even come close to Bobby Mcferrin!

That man is such a great inspiration for many, many musicians and music lovers. He is not only a total genius at what he does, he also has a very rich background and just the right amount of humor. Agreed: this man is very, very underrated.

@Abbytater First of all, from someone who is way past 18.. it's really fine to be weird! You'll realize this as you get older.. past 40... lol.. and liking Bobby McFerrin at your age shows you are wise, insightful, probably musical, and completely cool, in my book!

@1212625bear actually, head voice and falsetto are two different things. There are more techniques than the bel canto school discusses. Bobby Mcferrin is adept at most of them. The only reason his head voice is breathy like a falsetto is because he chooses to have that tone. There are countless examples in print of Bobby Mcferrin singing with an extraordinarily resonant head voice. So... you're wrong.

@nphony I completely disagree! (Haha!) Many professionals agree on what head voice is. It's your upper range, where most of the resonance is in your head. Quite simple, really. I think it's even more obvious and true for those who actually sing.
@Selrisitai
@Selrisitai 13 жыл бұрын
That wasn't really head voice. It was falsetto, within the head voice.

@Abbytater Music has nothing to do with your age. Talent has nothing to do with your age. I'm 15 and I'm singin' Standards like Spain, What a difference a day made, Besame Mucho and Boogie Down since already 2 years. And i bet he startet a bit earlier than me. Dont compare yourself to others.

@AtariMaxiToriyama Sorry, but you can't just decide your own facts. On the well-cited article at Wikipedia, the best statement that could be agreed upon is "The use of this term varies widely within vocal pedagogical circles and there is currently no one consistent opinion among vocal music professionals regarding this term." And what do you mean "those who actually sing" ? That's a lame unfounded attempt at ad hominem and appeal to authority and only shows your ignorance.

1212625 Bear...you're lack of understanding of virtuoso talent is...frankly astounding... Try to sing McFerrin's vers of Blackbird....and when you quit 5 minultes later...realize that this man is the Charlie Parker of voice...What's that you say? Charlie Parker really didnt do anything virtuosic either??????
