In 2003 my wife was trying to leave Bread Garden in West Van and my baby daughter was kicking up a fuss. A woman came up and said, "let me hold her so you can gather your things." My wife handed my daughter to her and as she let go of her she realized it was Sarah! My daughter has been held by the woman who wrote "Arms of an Angel!"

She's lovely and super down to earth. A few years ago I was working at a luxury furniture store in Vancouver and approached a kind looking woman in the showroom who had arrived with her daughter, and immediately recognized it was Sarah! I'm not one for treating people differently based on their social status (people are all just people really, you know?) so I just helped her browse the sofas, and couldn't resist asking where she'd bought her pretty summer dress from. So that was fun, and at any rate I can report she's as solid and real and kind as the rest of us Canadians!

She’s changed her priorities from just her incredible career to take a different path and live her life her way. She’s smart to do that in taking a break from the road and touring too much. The road can be dangerous and taxing to one’s mind and health. It’s killed many musicians who got caught up in the excess and partying all night and sleeping all day. And drinking and drug use can kill and has ended the lives of many musicians. She’s wise to save herself from those minefields! Great to see her doing so well. She’s blessed with talent and natural beauty! Good Interview! Thanks Q!

I was in college when I listened to "Surfacing" for the first time and it defined my college years. Every song on it is powerful, but they are even more so now that I am an older adult. My mother was a big fan of Sarah's, too, and she passed away last year. Listening to Sarah McLachlan reminds me of how my mom and I used to listen to her in the car together and how I thought a breakup was the greatest heartache I would ever suffer.

Fantastic woman; a true Canadian; earthy; rich in heart; vibrant about doing something good; makes the word love really into an action for another; lovingly whimsical at times; is there such a thing as goodhearted, well she certainly speaks to that... and hopeful about life and what you can see in another person. The reason FTE resonated was because of the storytelling. It was relatable and melodically it was magical with Sarah's versatile voice. She can sing tender, ethereal, and powerful and the album did a wonderful job of matching her singing skills in the right moments in the right songs. FTE historically was underrated with the general musical audience but to me and it's a masterpiece. Gratz to Sarah on the songwriter HOF!

Good interview. Glad Sarah is making a new album. She hit the nail on the head for me about why “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy” was such a success and was so good. It was a transitional period of my life. I ended a 17-year relationship and came out of the closet. During this time, I listened to music by Rob Zombie, Creed, and Sarah and Delerium. Sarah’s writing and musical acumen are unique and what makes her such a great artist. During this time, I too really looked for and listened to entire albums. And it is becoming a lost art to create a complete body of musical work in an entire album. It’s still what I look for when I seek out and buy music. Can’t wait to hear Sarah’s new work.

Great interview. Such a beautiful soul! I'm so glad I discovered her music with Solace...then Touch, and then Fumbling came out! To say it was transformative is an understatement. I was 15, a nerdish loner in many ways (I had friends, but hadn't found 'love' yet). Her voice and songs were like a balm. As an empath, they conveyed feelings, and a yearning for something better, than any music I knew at that time (with the exception of grunge perhaps - some of that really spoke to me, but more on the 'angsty' side) - but as a hopeless romantic, Sarah spoke to me! I think it did to my wife too! We didn't know each other yet then, but 3 years later (1996), she entered my life, and her songs found new meaning! The moment I heard she was touring Fumbling, I instantly looked for local dates, and boy, did that show not disappoint! Thank you Sarah for sharing your gift for all of these years, but especially for sharing this wonderful album, all over again!! And a special congrats on your Songwriters Hall induction! You were in fine company with Blue Rodeo & Tom Cochrane. All of you are so very deserving of such accolades! Cheers from this Canadian to you!
